3 easy ways to regulate use of skincare products

A bathroom full of skincare products is not a sign of abundance of wealth but a shortage of courage by parents to say NO. Here are three easy ways to regulate the use of skincare products by your children.

*Special note -

Skin care products are a rage amongst the adolescents and teens. This is a vulnerable age group and needs protection and guidance from parents and caregivers. Australia recently banned social media for kids under 16 after extensive consultation with experts, parents and young people. The aim is to protect young Australians from the harms that come with social media.

We are living in the age of influencer culture and it’s easy to target this vulnerable demographic. Predatory algorithms “inform” kids about skin care routine or steps that their fav influencer followed to have confidence even when there was an acne scar. I believe that in the absence of social media, kids would feel much more comfortable in their skin than they currently do.

Australia has taken a step in the right direction as policy interventions are needed for helping parents do a better job with their kids. It’s easy to say no when there is legislation - whether it’s for junk food, skin care or under age driving.

Rujuta, you're like a breath of fresh air. But you must understand that this obsession to have flawless skin, figure, hair etc. etc. is very market driven. Youth and children are targets for marketing these products. This industry very effectively creates insecurities in people. And they win most times.

I agree with you totally. As a teenager I hardly used any products until graduation, actually never needed .But I feel bad for my teenage kid who uses so many products. You are right I have to have the courage to say no and its ok for temporary conflict.

Thanks a ton Rujuta for talking about this. Being a dermatologist it is extremely disheartening to see young kids asking for skin care routine 😞 People need to realise that beautification starts from within.

shes right. these days the excess of skincare products have made people have un realistic goals.. their faces look so unhealthily bleached or shine so artificially ..all in pursuit of glass skin...people are ruining the natural strength of the skin. Im sayin this coz im a victim of this myself. During lockdown i experimented so much with my skin tat it ruined my natural smooth and healthy skin. natural skin does not look like a shining glass plate....it looks flushed and soft...i had to go back to my dermat and she asked me to stop all the products at once. im now follwoing her routine...something i did all my life ...one facewash, moisturiser, sunscreen ....and a night creme for all the acne and marks i have got due to reckless products i have used on my skin 🤧 Better keep it basic and eat healthy for naturally glowin skin ...not plastic looking shiny glass surface skin lol

PUTTING LIMITS IS GOOD TO HAVE A WATCH ON OUR HABITS .. THAT'S OK RUJUTA

BUT MAIN PURPOSE TO PUTTING LIMITS IS TO MAKE CHILDREN AWARE OF TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN BODY NATURALLY BY EATING HEALTHY FOOD, KEEPING BODY HYDRATED, EXERCISE & MOST IMPORTANTLY MAINTAINING A GOOD BALANCE BETWEEN OUTSIDE NATURE & INSIDE NATURE THAT IS PRAKRUTI

WHEN YOU RESPECT PRAKRUTI
PRAKRUTI WILL RESPECT YOU
