Professor Conor Heneghan is Chief Engineer at ResMed Sensor Technologies Ltd and Associate Professor at UCD's School of Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering.

In his TEDxUCD talk Conor talks about the importance of Sleep as part of the "Troika" of Health, alongside Food and Exercise. Conor explores the ubiquity of sleep in the natural world and some of the health impacts (physical and psychological) of sleep problems including sleep apnoea.

Speaker Profile
Professor Conor Heneghan completed his undergraduate studies at University College Dublin followed by a PhD at Columbia University, New York, both in Electronic Engineering.

In 2003, he co-founded the UCD spin-out company BiancaMed, together with Dr Conor Hanley and Dr Philip de Chazal, with a focus on developing new technologies for the measurement of sleep and breathing.

BiancaMed was acquired by ResMed Inc in 2011, and continues to develop new products and technologies for sleep and respiration measurement at its offices and laboratories at NexusUCD, the Industry Partnership Centre.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
