Thanks for all your help. You got me going on the Cracky rain gutters, so fun, so useful.

Ouch on the pump! 4 yrs running 24/7 is awesome life span for a small pump. I use a paint strainer over mine to keep anything from getting in the pump to clog it up or break the propeller. You know I am a huge support of yours buddy. I think your channel should be one of the top trending with all the amazing things you teach. Keep on keep on my friend. Happy Thanksgiving!

You are such a blessing, love how you calmly fixed the problem. Have a great Thanksgiving, appreciating the downspouts you sent me. Much love from Alaska💖

My advice, keep b vitamin on hand just incase this happens. B vitamin will pull them right outta shock. Another tip, hydrogen peroxide in your res twice a month keep all unwanted bacterial buildup out. Drip clean to clean your system inbetween runs. Happy growing

So how has it worked out changing it over to the Kratky system. Have you seen any root rot or slowed growth due to lack of oxygen? I did just the opposite. Started with same setup as Kathy then added bubblers, then I switched to a pump that ran full time. Now I have it cycling on 4 times daily for 5 minutes and a stand pipe in each one to maintain half full. (Same Kratky principle but adds some oxygen) This is working great but for my best lettuce production was with continuous pump. All my melons grow Kratky in 30 gallon drums cause the roots got packed in 5 gal. bucket toward end of season and I didn't have good luck trimming the roots. Hope I didn't kram too much in this post just sharing info. Thanks for the videos and all the shared info. Witt SWFL

Great video. I have had the same thing happen and I figured all my plants were dead. But in fact as soon as I was able to get flow most made it and continued to grow.

Thank you, I love your earth conciousness, and your ability to think out of the box.
I'm watching videos like crazy trying to learn what and what not to do. I have most of my components ready to start building, I've started a few store bought plants in the Kratky system to learn how to mix and utilize nutrients. So this video gave me a bit of pause as I want an NFT system. I have two ideas for redundancy.
1. Pumps are cheap, run a smaller backup pump through the system, (increased energy consumption. and ineffective if a blackout occurs)
2. create an NFT/Kratky hybrid, seal off the drainage end then apply a bulkhead fitting about an inch or two up so there is always some water in the system.
I'll have to experiment with the slope angle and drainage hole size so that the top of the system doesn't dry up if the pump fails and the lower end doesn't drown the roots.

I never build a pure nft, , i mount my grow chanel horizontally leveled, and then make an overflow on the opposite side of the feed, that way i have a bit of a safety margin. Also, for the price of these pumps, and their very low consumption, i usually run 2 pumps in parallel, so unless you have a extended power outage, you are pretty safe.

So was it boiling them? Maybe some vents would have alleviated the original issue. I know I have a raised planter box that sat directly on the concrete last year and the plants were wrecked. I put a 1 inch spacer under it, for air flow, a month ago, and the plants are thriving. Water + heat and nowhere’s to go is boiling. Basically pressure cooking the plants.

Should've changed it to a DFT system so even if the pump stops the roots still have nutrient till the pump can be replaced !! Seeya Rob

That's the good thing about the pvc systems u can alter them for your plants needs!! Atleast u caught it in time!! HAVE A BLESS THANKSGIVING URSELF AND KEEP ON GROWING!! if it wasn't for your videos I wouldn't of attempted to grow inside this winter!! Got 3 downspouts with lettuce currently!! Peace love and honey mustard over n out

you should use end cup and drill 25mm hole in the middle to connect small pipe, so you don't have to worry about the pump broken

I use those bins for aeroponics and have found grinding off the nubs that keep the lid locked make life easier.

What was the pressure on your pump the marine land series for aquariums is pretty decent and you can buy replacement impellers and use anywhere from a 900 to a 1600 gallon per hour pump from them in my aquarium year round and rarely ever clean

These videos are very inspiring. Other videos make hydroponics seem unattainable by the beginner. Your videos make me feel like I can do this. Thanks
