Hi all, here is my blind test for the Fujifilm X-T4 and all new Sony A7IV with 56mm F1.2 vs 85mm F1.8 FE. I did this portraits photoshoot with Julia @juwwaa in Sacramento downtown.

I've been watching these comparisons lately on your channel and to me they just prove that with the current crop of modern, mirrorless cameras and lenses, if you've got skill as a photographer, these systems are interchangeable. You should use the one that feels most comfortable and lets you focus on your creative vision because any minor advantages one system might have over another are immaterial at this point - they are not dealbreakers.

Thank you Xing Liu. Once again you have saved me thousands of £$€ as I own the XT4 and 56mm but was convincing myself I need the A7IV and 85mm!! This shows that my current kit is more than good enough. So instead I’m doing a portrait course with some excellent instructors!

This was by far the easiest to distinguish from most of your videos. The Sony skin tones are a definite giveaway and I am enjoying it. It's very subjective, and I own an X-T4. Thanks for the content.

Skintone and saturation still gives away the 2 brands quite easily.

I sold my Sony gear to shoot Fujifilm. Both awesome but the user experience with Fujifilm is a joy. Plus I love the film simulations like Classic Negative

Wonderful photos as always! Guessed almost everyone correctly. Fuji's skin tones are more pleasing and has more contrast — though this can vary depending on Film sim. Seems the 56mm has better flare control as well — those Super EBC coatings are really incredible! Gotta give it to the 85mm for the bokeh though, just a hair smoother.

Sony color science seems getting better, beautiful portraits photos as usual, thank you for the comparison video 👍😊

Brilliant comparison mate..really torn between these two cameras. Think I do prefer most of the Sony images in this video but as you’ve said you can warm it up with the exposure and in post..I currently have a Sony a7ii with a 50mm 85 Batis but the weight of the full frame lenses puts me off getting more. Love the size of some of the Fuji lenses and the style of the camera so thinking to sell off my Sony kit and switching over and giving it a go

I got the first wrong, but as soon as I saw that I got the rest right. the magenta shift is pretty prominent. I'm wondering though if a simple adjustment of white balance in camera would have made them closer. the Sony was consistently the more aesthetically pleasing to me, which is disappointing to me as an xt4 shooter, but oh well. I know this thing can still output great images, just takes a bit more effort I suppose.

Wow very the Fuji still holds up pretty well. BTW did you use a hood on the 85 on the Sony since the image is very hazy and there's quite some flare effect.

Once I started focusing on her sweater it was easier to tell which ones were Fujifilm vs Sony. The Fujifilm images had better flare control and colour rendition on the sweeter itself. Also, Sony, surprisingly, came across as too warm on her skin tones whereas the Fujifilm skin tones were more realistic and pleasing to the eye. I will say that I'm biased when it comes to Fujifilm images because I shoot the Fujifilm X-Pro3 and X-T3 for both street photography and professional portraiture. This was a good comparison and it shows that you don't need a full-frame camera to produce stunning photographs.

I can’t imagine how good the brand new XT5 is going to be 😍

I guess them all right. I know Sony color science. Sony makes your face look warmer. The XT4 has more contrast. It makes your face look cooler and a little pale in a some pictures. But all the photos look good without pixel peeping science.

Also you can adjust the colors in The Sony A7IV to look similar to the XT4 or Canon cameras. I shoot in Raw format for photos and edit in post. Also editing with S-log2 or 3.

That Fuji 1.2 lens is insane, it’s fighting flaring/ ghosting so much much better than the Sony lens.

Great comparison man. These lenses perform really well on each system. I could easily tell each one. Fuji has better natural color but I always felt the blacks are a little too black on the system. Sony is the opposite with that orange/green tint still plaguing the system but they have improved over the years. BTW, I got them all right...Lol.

So we can figure out by 2 min into the video that any of the ones struggling with lighting is the A7IV and as well as any that gives her face a warmer orange tone is also the A7IV

Got it right most of the time :) In good light, I preferer Sony AWB, although it's still too yellow for my taste, while Fuji tends to run too cool/magenta. Something in between would be the best, I guess that's Canon maybe :)

In more challenging situations, and especially with a lot of foliage, Sony AWB errors a lot (strong green cast) and Fuji does a much better job there (although it also errors towards magenta but less so).

Overall I think there are some improvements for sure with A7 IV, but they are not dramatic and it's still not on Fuji (and certainly not on Canon) level with AWB consistency.

Btw, there seems to be a lot of flare issues with the Sony combination, which is quite the opposite to previous comparisons. Previously, it was often the Fuji that was more prone to flare while Sony was more resistant. Do you have an idea what changed that caused Sony to flare this much and lose a lot of contrast?

Again, you used the flare to your advantage in most cases, so good job!

Great comparison! One question, for Fuji which film simulation did you use? I prefer canon's skin tones but in generally love fuji's performance.
