In many other videos and podcasts I have watched on this subject, this fact is often not touched on, and HMB's secondary mechanisms of increasing protein synthesis is emphasized instead.
However, the fact that HMB's primary mechanism is inhibiting protein breakdown is important for understanding when this supplement will be effective. That is to say, HMB is effective during scenarios in which there is high protein turnover. This mainly occurs in 3 scenarios:
1) Those who are new to training
2) Those who are overtraining
3) Those who are in a severe energy deficit and eating suboptimal levels of protein
