The cat literally just needs to sprint for a few seconds tho and it can hide away easily. This would work great on an open field or on a bigger animal, but not one that can easily hide and then walk away when we don't know where they're going

But Fr, part of what made humans survive as long as we did, was the ability to wear down prey, and run away from predators for far longer than the predators had energy to run. Endurance is one of the keys to our species existence. That and bigger brain cavity, for bigger, better brain :3

My cat ran and hid under our deck and refused to come out so we thought he was stuck. We got so worried that we ended up ripping up multiple planks from the deck. And then he came out on his own, from a different part of the deck. He wasnt stuck, he just decided to worry us for hours for fun

This is true and all but at least with my housecats I find a quicker method is just. Pretending I'm not trying to get them. Just like, do the usual 'oh hiii cute little baby lemme pet you :)' and stick out my hand and they sometimes even come over on their own. Then I can pet them for a second and then grab em. Works 70-90% of the time

wish this worked when my cat went missing. cats don’t keep running, they hide and they stay put. and they’re very good at it. my neighbor eventually found our cat after two months of daily searching

People always talk about our intelligence being why the species and close ancestors covered the world. It definitely played a huge part, but that requires a lot of energy. Energy that would have been impossible without an utterly insane amount of endurance. That is our greatest skill. The unending pursuit.

All fine and dandy until the cat decides to have a lie down in someone’s backyard 3 blocks over.

growing up what my family did with one cat who always tried to escape was that we’d coax him back in with food. we basically taught him that if he could escape he’d get a free meal but this got him into a routine that when he’d escape he’d circle the house and come back in through the back door to eat. there were times where if not for this habit he probably wouldn’t have come back since we lived in NY and he wasn’t used to the cold winters being an indoor cat
