According to the American Academy of Dermatology, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with an estimated 95-hundred Americans diagnosed every day. Though much depends on skin type, too much exposure to harmful UV rays puts people of all skin types at risk of skin cancer. Here’s the truth about tanning and cumulative exposure to the sun.

About skin cancer... and common sense.
Since I changed my diet, I can stay much longer in the summer sun before burning. Always do your own research, and only follow my habit when you really know what you are doing. I don't believe many MDs and even specialists in the field are aware of this.

First: I am not a medical doctor and what I say here is no medical advice! I do this on my own risk. If you already suffered from skin cancer, don't do what I did. Probably too much damaged DNA already.. I would advice a diet change though.

Did you know that the poly unsaturated fats aka vegetable oils aka seed oils, aka
heart healthy oils are EXTREMELY sensitive to oxygen and UV light? They are not natural, but highly processed in what resembles a chemical plant. They become rancid easily, in the bottle, and in your skin. (Eating fish is healthy, more so than using omega 3 capsules).
The vegetable oils are not healthy and are the cause of many issues in the body due to chronic, low grade inflammation. Another cause of metabolic disease is an overload of sugars and refined carbs, as in junk food, processed foods and stuff that comes in a nice packaging with ingredients list and barcode. Also 🚬 and 🍷 are very unhealthy.

If you change your diet to what your great grand parents ate, whole foods, meat, vegetables, legumes, eggs, saturated fats like animal fats, butter, cream and avocado oil, olive oil, coconut oil, after some years your skin will start to tolerate much more sunshine. It is much more stable thanks to the diet.
So this is what I started to do years ago: throw out all sunflower, rapeseed, cotton seed, soy and peanut oils. I only use natural grass fed butter, meat, avocado oil and some virgin olive oil.
I know this may be cursing in the church... After some years of better diet I now walk around for hours or on the sun without factor 50. I live in the Netherlands, quite far away from the equator (latitude 52°). I wouldn't do this in the tropics with my white skin, I guess!
This UV also produces vitamin D3 in my skin. D3 may be very beneficial to support a healthy skin.
Wearing sun screen factor 50 probably means that you make no vitamin D3 ( perhaps 1/50 th? ;)

Also know this: UV-B rays give a tan to light skinned people. This protects against UV-A and UV-B.
If you stay behind glass windows, the UV-B is filtered out and you won't develop any protecting suntan.
Now the sad part: UV-A gets through the glass. This is the UV radiation that gives you the more dangerous skin cancers. So: wear factor 50 inside?

Conclusion: I changed my diet to the old fashioned stuff and I walk outside in the sun shine like my great grand parents did.🔆 No sunburn. ❌

I get an extreme sunburn on my shoulders and back every year. I hope I don't get cancer but even when I use 70 SPF sunscreen, I still burn. What can I do to help my skin stay healthy and still be outside?
