All the sellers should share the names of the people they’ve been scammed by. No one else is going to look out for us so we should look it up for us.

Here's another way to get back - sue 'em. We got scammed on this same switch technique. The item was sent to the buyer's house, which the buyer owned. We sued the buyer in the small claims court in our state. The buyer didn't show up, so we got a default judgement. As soon as our attorney sent a letter saying you have 10 days to pay until we lien your house, we got our check. This won't work for every scam buyer, but it's another tool.

You sure as hell can blame eBay for not protecting sellers, ESPECIALLY when they’ll even add fees to your involuntary refund AND find for seller yet STILL assess fees.

Don, as a reseller, my girlfriend and I have had success taking our more expensive items directly to our local UPS store and having the staff there package up and ship out the items. We currently have a mailbox at that same location, of which we have all of our returns sent to. The thought being the staff being onsite notaries can greatly assist with disputes, if the need arises. We have on occasion have requested them to witness opening of some returns as well as other items we have purchased as sourcing items. The main thought being if the UPS staff at the UPS Store can confirm that an item was packed up and sent out by them previously and then returned to them and it was not what they packed up then the dispute will likely be much easier to prove. Luckily we have not faced this issue directly as of right now, but our thoughts are in mitigating this if it were to happen. Hope this helps

I got hit a few weeks ago sold a $350 modem on receipt Buyer filed INAD and sent me back a broken answering machine from the 80's in the modem box, I fought the return showing the buyer had done this 11 times and his feedback left to other sellers showed this but they still sided with the scammer, it just gets

Ebay should fix this, the system is awful. So many scammers now compared to 4-5 years ago.

If you're selling items that are prone to this type of fraud, I would suggest very strong language that your listing is taking extra measures to prevent fraud, This will scare away some fraudsters. Also, if it has a serial number, take a picture of the s/n and show it in your listing. Say in your listing that you record serial numbers. And like you say Don, don't make it easy for them. Force them to communicate, sometimes this will discourage them too.

It would be cool if there were some business that you can have all of your returns sent to and they would just verify what was in the box with some kind of written statement or video. Kind of like a verifying service.This would be the modern way of dealing with mail instead of us acting like it's still the 1800's.

I think you would be a great public speaker, radio, television, anywhere really. Your very good at explaining. You keep your emotions in check, which is rare today. You would make a great spokesperson or advocate speaker. You come across calm, insightful concerning your subject matter, and intelligent. We need a decentralized platform where sellers can stake and vote on the outcome of cases. Ebay is last century tech.

The one thing that bothers me the most about tracking the items you send out is that on occasion eBay will show that the item is still in transit and has not been delivered yet and yeah most of the time the buyer has already given feedback so you know it’s been delivered but then there are those that love it when they have received the package but because eBay doesn’t show that it has been delivered they open a case hoping to be refunded.

Film packing the item, sealing the package, at the post office, hand to postal clerk who scans it, and walk out of post office when sending expensive items. Also film returns opening the package when mailman delivers package to your door with mailman there if possible or at the post
office. If the item is thousands of dollars, it’s worth the effort.

I think if Ebay should put a mark against the buyers account or a claim from the seller that a switch accured Ebay could see if this is a common thing from the buyer. But we all know Ebay could care less about the sellers.

Ebay customer service is lousy and allow all these scams on their platform. They never read the ebay messages in the system that points out the problem. They immediately side with the buyer.

Another amazing video. Thank you! Your idea is good to videotape while receiving the returned item. I have to tell you I have had the same e bay account for 20 years. Active reseller for 5-6 years now. After my description in every item it says. “We do not accept returns” simply because I don’t want the nonsense. So far I have only had one problem I sold a used video recorder. Customer removed the insides and sent back a shell. I was out $60.00. E bay said make a police report. I tossed it in the trash and have not had problems since. No more used electronics.

Ebay designs a system that can be scammed easily. Ebay makes money out of it. A lot of money. The best way is demand the system be fixed to tell the difference between one item and another.
