I appreciate that you told the scam at the beginning of the video and not clickbaiting with it and waiting until the end to bring it up.

If the buyer has any deviation at all (address, wants a percentage back for shipping costs, wants the item to be packaged in a certain way, etc...) I will automatically tell them I am happy to cancel their order. I would rather have 'no sale' than have any issues after it's shipped! Oh, and of course you immediately block them from your account.

Red flag when they’re asking to be shipped somewhere else ! I tell them can only
Ship to the address on eBay’s file .

I’ve been doing eBay now for 22 years. I haven’t had anything like that yet. Between eBay and Etsy, I try to keep communication open and direct, and I always get a tracking number and I always put alerts on the tracking number via the USPS app. Needless to say, I don’t fuck around. 😊

Ebay is getting really really strange now with scammers. I don't buy or sell on Ebay anymore. Too much like this is happening on Ebay and is not worth the effort to deal with it.

Thank you for the info. I'm getting so sick of hearing about scamming! I hope they get scammed someday to know how it feels

Thanks for sharing. You can never be too careful out there. This seems like it would be a fairly simple thing for eBay to catch if they just set parameters to flag accounts sending an excess amount of messages. Of course they could do it slowly from multiple accounts. That being said, it probably won't get addressed by eBay until it gets brought up more because eBay is generally slow to act.

I just put in the product description that I only ship to eBay confirmed addresses and I won’t change the address after the sale. I also put in the description that I only sell to people with 10+ positive feedback ratings with no negative ratings. I might exclude some good buyers doing that but I really don’t use eBay much but when I do, the items I sell are majority $200+ items from my video game collection. I also always use shipping with tracking and monitor that tracking daily. Plus, I always send pics of their item packaged before I seal the box, after I’ve sealed the box with the address label on the front, and then a pic from the PO receipt after I’ve shipped it which includes the city and tracking number. I’m weary of scams, so I try my best to cover myself 100%

Good catch! Also if someone would send you an address in DE, Google the address and see where it is going. Had one going to exporter and then a few lines down in people were writing that it was a scammers address. Was reported to eBay

If eBay can read our messages, why do they still reward the scammer with a refund? If they see a message to forward the item to a different address, and you shipped it there they should close the case the in seller's favor.

I've had a couple customers try to get me to ship to another address.
I tell them that I can only mail to the address on file with eBay, for tracking and insurance reasons.
I will then instruct them to update their address with eBay and I will then mail to new address.
I also instruct them to do it before my 3 day shipping deadline.

Thanks for this I’m new to eBay so all the info and advice I can get is valuable.

The contact seller button after the sale is the same for the buyer as it is for anyone else. There should be a differentiator whereby the seller knows that this is verified correspondence from the buyer.

The same thing happened to me with an item I am due to ship in 24 hours . I almost fell for it but at the last minute realised the ID of the person asking me to ship to another address didn’t match that of the sender details so was able to backtrack and send the item to the original sender info showing in the payment confirmation …eBay really needs to do more to protect sellers !

Thanks for the video. You just saved me. But quick question so I received the same type of message as in the video with the screenshot address but the zip code and city was the same how do the the scammer know the buyers zip code or is the buyer in on the scam as well?

It is a scam that been going for a few years now. They pretend to be the buyer as they also watch the item and wait to see when it sell and pretend to be the buyer to have it shipped to them instead, they hope you won’t notice. They watch hot item’s like Apple products and etc.

I've had a few of these. I just tell them that I have to ship it to the address on eBay. Then they usually say "the other seller did it for me." Which is an attempt to normalize the behavior. I just let them know that I can't, and furthermore its against eBay's policy as the seller is not protected. I then let them know they need to cancel the order, update their address and re-purchase the item.

Surely ebay would notice an account suddenly spamming messages out and have filters for that?

I don't buy or sell anything of value on eBay. I buy watches quite a lot and never trust eBay. This is invaluable information and appreciate the effort you put in to help people stay safe. Thanks!
