The enormous solid rocket boosters on the Orion launch system generate 3.6 million pounds of thrust! That's the equivalent of 14 jumbo jets operating at maximum power. NASA plans to increase this incredible performance to enable future missions to Mars.

Why in the hell are you still using imperial units with a worldwide audience? Its so silly

The SLS is a giant waste of money, the BFR or Starship will make it to mars first. Also, the only thing that will cost money on the rocket is the fuel. Other than that the thing is 100% reusable.

1:30 RS-25 engines (1st gen) are really old school with a big weight cost. Newer engines can deliver twice the thrust or higher per pound of weight. Of-course nothing gets more old school than Estes Solid rocket boosters. This jobs program system using older parts should work assuming the rest of the rocket can take the vibration of the SRB's. The first version of this will not be near as powerful as Saturn V and if SpaceX Mars Colonial Transport gets built it will make SLS look like a relic lifting well over double the amount of any SLS and being reusable. There is no real hope of re-usability in SLS because of he SRB's.

The science channel is using clickbait. This is not a rocket, this is a booster, and plus the SpaceX falcon heavy rocket generates over five million pounds of thrust quoted in the SpaceX Falcon Heavy section on their website. Here is the paragraph they mention it in: Falcon Heavy is the most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two. With the ability to lift into orbit nearly 64 metric tons (141, 000 lb)---a mass greater than a 737 jetliner loaded with passengers, crew, luggage and fuel--Falcon Heavy can lift more than twice the payload of the next closest operational vehicle, the Delta IV Heavy, at one-third the cost. Falcon Heavy draws upon the proven heritage and reliability of Falcon 9.
Its first stage is composed of three Falcon 9 nine-engine cores whose 27 Merlin engines together generate more than 5 million pounds of thrust at liftoff, equal to approximately eighteen 747 aircraft. Only the Saturn V moon rocket, last flown in 1973, delivered more payload to orbit. Falcon Heavy was designed from the outset to carry humans into space and restores the possibility of flying missions with crew to the Moon or Mars.

It might look cool... but I bet SpaceX will go beyond earth orbit before the SLS even flies.
