Actually powder (whether is it baby powder or flour) is an essential equipment in pool pubs here, because not everyone has pool gloves. The downside is if you apply too much of it it will be very messy. I recalled several times my hand marked the table with powder because I used it too much. So yea don't apply too much just use it on the groove of your bridge hand and ensure that the cue will slide effortlessly

Use #0000 fine steel wool on the end of your cue. It will never get sticky
