The lyrics, “use a lot of ice when he’s away” is referencing the days that people had ice delivered by an ice man because freezers didn’t have automatic ice makers. Insinuating the delivery guy was there often.

Peyton Place was a best-selling book, movie, & TV series about the goings-on in a small town. This song was also made into a movie & TV series (both starring Barbara Eden, of I Dream Of Jeannie TV series fame).

Love how she calls out all the hypocrites!

In the sixties and seventies us girls had to wear dresses to school and most of them were very short. Just look at the Brady Bunch. 😅

My mama socked it to the Harper valley PTA meaning she put them all in their place. Completely called them out. So satisfying. 🔥

Back then, wearing short skirts was scandalous, especially for someone's mother. Sock it to me, was a famous TV comedy line on TV at the time.

For the Full Context of this song to be understood, from the 1960s-80s, PTAs (Parent-Teacher Association) often acted like they were the 'unofficial' School Board. They are just supposed to be an afterschool "conference" teachers, parents & classroom volunteers. BUT LIKE THIS SONG DISCUSSES, PTAs OFTEN ACT LIKE "HOAs" & THINK THEY ARE THE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHDOGS OF A SCHOOL SYSTEMS MORALITY ISSUES.

Omg, you're going to get a kick out of this I know it.❤ I grew up with the song on the radio and later our band played it when we would have this one very young guest singer come in and do like Adele covers and stuff and we would have to learn the parts, but just for her, we didn't normally play that kind of stuff.

But at some point, we said man you've got to listen to some of this older music that you might actually be able to kick ass on and this was one of them and at first she was intimidated by all the lyrics, but she had her cheat sheet with her and we performed at live a couple times and it was a little shaky but we also found the groove, and the audience got into it, and you can tell she built up confidence, and then not long after, we started having her up sometimes and really packed intense situations and she just belted it out of the park. It's so happy for me to see something from my childhood that I'm also musically invested in and culturally invested in, jump to a younger generation, whether it's her practicing and singing with our band sometimes or whether it's you reacting to it.❤❤❤

Jeannie has many great songs, a few to get you started are "Edna Burgoo" "Satan Place" "The Girl Most Likely" "We Were Raised on Love" and so on and so on, the rabbit hole is deep! The Girl Most Likely even has a video with it and it's from the late sixties!

Even if it’s not your type of music, it’s fun hearing the story 😁

And just like a milk man going around town delivering milk there was also an ice man that delivered ice. That’s why she said mrs taylor sure used a lot of ice whenever he’s away. Hinting of an affair
