The story of Meenakshi teaches a lot of modern feministic values.

And, importantly a lot of lessons on how Patriarchy comes in various forms to blunt the efforts of feminism...

I was just imagining how massive and divine it might be back then when the real wedding and celebrations was happening of the lords. It must be 10000 plus times of what we are celebrating today. 🙏🏼

Meenactchi - Meen - Fish - Symbol of Pandyas
atchi - Rule.
Ruler of Fish - Simple Ruler of Pandyas.
Still now people consider Meenatchi is their own Queen

This is a beautiful documentary showcasing the beautiful chithirai Thiruvizha, the faith, the sense of community and togetherness (no politician can take it away from the Tamizh people). Joined by faith across casts, villages, towns, district and the entire state. People come for afar to enjoy the beautiful wedding of Meenakshi and Sundareshwar . Have to give the commentator / Nat geo lead for his wonderful attempt to stick to the real story, the people and getting the pronunciations right. His joy, awe is evident in his beautiful commentary and documentary. Thanks for showing the real beauty of India

Meenakshi means Meen + Aatchi which means the 'Rule of Fish" as Fish is the symbol of Pandiyan Kingdom we consider and We are still under the rule of beloved Queen of Pandiyan Dynasty.

In Madurai, Meenakshi Amman is not a mere goddess... She is our Mother herself... She is our emotion and part of every household irrespective of caste creed and religion...
