The Beatles at The Star Club - Remastered 2023 Complete - Hamburg Germany 1962

Remastering of the long version of The Beatles at The Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany from December 1962 tapes. These are the complete recordings that include other acts on the bill and some guest vocalists.

Compression, Stereo Enhancement, targeted EQ to enhance vocals and snare, cut some shrill and add warmth in the low end to bring out Paul's bass and Ringo's kick drum.

This Beatles performance on New Year's Eve, 1962, was originally recorded by the club's stage manager, Adrian Barber, on a domestic Grundig tape recorder. Given to Ted Taylor of the Liverpool band The Dominoes, the tapes remained in obscurity until the mid-1970's, when former Beatles manager Allan Williams took them to Paul Rogers of Buk Records.

This recording drives home the reason The Beatles recruited Ringo to join the group. He really rocks and swings the group.

This the recording Peter Jackson wants to get his AI technology to separate all the elements to do a remix.

You can understand why John Lennon said nobody could touch them as a live band, although there are those who thought The Big Three were a great act live. Second it is evident that having Ringo Starr as the drummer gave The Beatles the third gear it needed to break through.

It’s wild how few of the Beatles’ live shows were recorded. Imagine if there was video footage of any of the Hamburg shows it would be just incredible to see.

You gotta go back and think about the dedication and effort Lennon put forth to build a band that he had no idea that would later Conquer the World. Lennon had a goal from Day One and it only goes to show that if you never relent or give up you can accomplish anything your heart desires. Thank you John Lennon RIP. Also have to give a Major Salute to Paul, George and Pete for sticking with John thru thick and thin and having faith in Johns Vision. Too bad Pete didn't work out but The Beatles found the final element in the formula with Ringo who became a good mate with them in Hamburg in the very early days and was there to sit in when Pete started Slacking. That foresight and appreciation that Ringo had with would lead him to be asked to join permanently in August 1962. The Beatles when given the chance proved their worth in more ways than one. True musical songwriting geniuses and extremely versital musicians. Take note those of the younger generations of today and listen to band who came from a dirty seaport city in Northern England with little hope of being nothing more than average factory workers and put the effort and time to become the Empire that is The Beatles.

Twist and Shout at 1:19:33 sounds exactly like how it does in the movie Backbeat, much faster tempo than the one on PPM and has the same intro riff as the one in the movie

Will Peter Jackson's MAL technology really make these recordings better?

Ringo was absolutely amazing when he still could hear the other Beatles, bofore the girls screamings.

OTD in ‘62, the Beatles play the first show of their second residency at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany.

“We went in November and in December, ” said Ringo.

“I don’t know where we stayed that final time. It’s hazy, to say the least. The staying wasn’t important, the living was cool. It was fairly crazy; I’d been there with Rory Storm, and I’d been separately to play with Tony Sheridan (I’d played with him for a month) and I was back this time with The Beatles, and it really felt good. It was becoming like home.”

“Little Richard played the Star-Club with Billy Preston. Billy was sixteen and he was fabulous; still it. I watched Little Richard twice a night for six days: it was so great. he did show off a bit in front of us – he’d want to know we were in the wings; he’d heard of us by that time.”

The Beatles performed for three and a half hours each night. They were paid 600DM (£53.50) per person each week.

Thanks to Boris.

I’m reading Mark Lewisohn’s seminal Tune-In Volume 1 (unabridged). This recording is a wonderful companion piece that fills in the color that a written account can’t help but fall short of. Thank you.

If these were remixed and remastered when the film “Backbeat” came out, it would’ve been better than what they did, which was using 90s artists singing the songs.
