Budget Astrophotography with a DSLR - Part 1

Budget Astrophotography with a DSLR is surprisingly easy and despite the light pollution fantastic Deep Sky Photography from the city is within the reach of even a beginner. In this video I show you how to beat the skyglow and image nebula from an urban backyard or roof on a low cost budget of £150. This is fun astrophotography with incredible results!

My astrophotography setup: I photographed Orion with a DLSR, a canon EOS 1000D Rebel which I modified and a skywatcher alt az goto mount with a 102mm achromatic refractor telescope on top. All items were bought on ebay or Astro Buy and Sell UK.

The Target: The orion nebula is one of the brightest deep space targets in the nights sky. It also emits light in hydrogen alpha (Ha) and Oxygen II (Oii) wavelengths which can be used to our advantage when photographing from a light polluted city such as London.

This has to be the best astrophotography channel. Nothing to hide using all the fancy and expensive equipment, and just shows proof that you don’t need to spend a fraction of the money suggested on getting similar pictures.
This video is what actually got me thinking about buying a telescope, now that I have a fully manual Canon EOS 77D. All that is left to buy is a telescope - No, not an £800 telescope, but a cheap £70 used telescope.
Thank you, astrobiscuit.

Hi buddy,
I'm new to astronomy so have been watching lots of different tubes to get as much information as possible, I have purchased a Celestron 130eq and since setting it up haven't had a single clear night (bad times) hopefully will get one soon.
Just want to say that out of all the videos/tubes I've watched yours is the most inspiring channel.
You make it funny yet informationaly packed and describe things in a way I am able to understand, and I know you have the high end equipment but love your budget bids too.
Keep them coming.

“Pretty shit weather, 2 clear nights a month” I agree. The UK weather is annoying and inconsistent 😂

Hi Biscuit GREAT channel. I was into astronomy many moons ago but drifted away. Now im getting back into it thanks to you! I am an engineer and have a tip for you for mount are stood RIGHT NEXT to a VERY stable base - THE CHIMNEY BREAST! Surely you can attach a small platform onto that just for the tripods? Jobs a good'un! It WILL NOT MOVE!

This video here is a classic. Years (and several AP rigs) later, and I’m watching it again with enthusiasm. Your enthusiasm is always contagious! I will do this to a Canon DSLR yet…
Cheers!
