How Much Pilots Earn in the U.S in 2024 (New Contracts)

Welcome aboard!

As of late 2023, Legacies had their new contracts! With the new contract, the salaries will substantially increase over the 3-4 year course. Salaries are the most commonly discussed topic among the new pilots and pilots-to-be. Unlike the rest of the world, pilot salaries are determined based on hourly rates in the U.S. That makes the overall calculation more complex than European and Middle Eastern pilot salaries because an individual's salary will be based on how hard or easy he/she wants to work in the U.S. In this video, I wanted to give you a rough idea of how you should calculate the approximate compensation as a Legacy pilot in the U.S. Since we are talking about the money, I'd like to warn you in advance there might be little discrepancies between actual values and presented values. Also, I tried to simplify the equipment-pay rates table and didn't consider blended rates in this video. Before watching, I encourage you to read the disclaimer first at the beginning of the video!

As usual, leave your feedback in the comments section, and don't forget to subscribe my channel!

Southwest guy here. We are the only airline that I know of that doesn't get paid by the hour. We are paid by the distance of each leg, so it makes things a bit more complex when it comes to comparing to other airlines. The most accepted way is to multiply our pay by 1.149 to be comparable to our peers.

Seeing this I understand how airforce and navy have a hard time retaining their pilots

Hi Caner, thanks for this comprehensive video about pilot salaries. It is great that you included both the Captain and First Officer pay for a period of years as you grow with the company. The 401 K benefit and Profit sharing can add substantially to the pilots salary.

Would be interested to know how much extra credit you could realistically make through overtime etc.

Overtime must be the reason for the story’s of senior captains earning $1million.

Thanks for another brilliant video.

Hey Caner! I just found your channel one or two hours ago and been binging a lot of your videos, they're super informative and comprehensive, and you should definitely have more subs imo. Also, as I live in Germany, you mentioned in a comment that you went to a flight school in Germany, which one did you go to and would you recommend it? Also, you don't need to answer if it's too private, but I'd be interested in knowing how you financed your flight training, did you need to take on some debt or did you go through some kind of cadet program or used another way, because these days it seems super expensive to become a pilot, north of 100.000€? Again, thanks for the great videos!

how long will it take me from college graduation to legacy airline captain? If I did the math right maybe 10 years? 4-5 years regional. 4-5 years legacy first officer. Then captain?

Do you recommend to get a 4 year degree or start flight school full time time to get my hours and get my seniority going at the regionals and majors? Or should is the 4 year degree important when flying for the airlines even after no longer requiring only recommending?

Wonderful video! Your explanation is a light for those who are willing to be a pilot in the US 🙏🏻 But I’m curious how much tax do you have to pay as a pilot in the US. In my country, a pilot’s salary is partly tax free due to the structure of the salary (eg. Flying pay after 50 hr, perdiem, and overtime…etc., these are tax free.)
I wonder how many percentage of your salary is taxable? Thank you again for your video 🙏🏻

Hi. Would be nice to know how you manage to get a job in the US as a non citizen, unless you are.

What do you mean by 25th year captain? Does this mean you stayed at the airline for 25 years? Will it take 25 years to reach $400 an hour?

Hello I have to my 2000 flying hours but I’m type rated on a A320 and don’t have an atpl but a mpl I am unsure of the cost of converting the license and the cost of getting the new type rating of the A380. Do emirates cover the cost of ether of those if not are you a ware of the cost of both of obtaining the new license. Thank you

Did you go to a traditional 4-year university to become a commercial airline pilot or did you take the shortcut?.

So, what is your advice to someone who wants to become an airline pilot ?
