“Please return the brass knuckles we sent you.”
**Company gets nothing back**
“Maybe we screwed up?”

Lifelock's CEO putting his SSN out for the public is like the equivalent of Tony Stark in Iron Man 3 daring criminals to attack him. It's only going to go the other way around.

Netflix's terrible marketing for Cuties should have been on this list.

Marketing majors always learn about these 2 marketing mistakes:

1. The Chevy Nova, which didn’t sell in Spanish speaking markets as No Va in Spanish means, “it doesn’t go.”
2. Exxon had a tiger as its mascot, which did not do well in South Asia because tigers mauling people is a real problem there.

There was also a brand of footwear sold by Target called “Orina” which in one language meant something positive and uplifting. In another language, however, it meant urine.

I think an honorable mention should be the "Hold your wee for a wii" contest. Where on a radio show you had to drink a ton of water and try to not pee in order to win a wii. Well... someone died from it because (shocker) you are not suppose to hold in gallons and gallons of pee in your bladder for a long time.

Having worked in the advertising industry, it floors me when something terrible gets a green light. From conception to acceptation, that choice has gone through many hands and getting signed off on. Like, upwards to 20!!

Moral of the story:
If you work in marketing, think before you do things.

Per was a detergent for the dishes here in Belgium. It was rated both "best product" as well as "best buy" by the consumer organisation each time they tested the detergents. A few years ago, they decided to rebrand the product to "Mir".
Obviously, rebranding is always a difficult choice. If done well, it can boost sales. But if the marketing isn't done well, then it obviously becomes a train wreck.
In the case of Per/Mir, the product is hardly for sale anywhere any more, even though the quality and price are amazing, because nobody buys it.
Why you ask? Because they never ever publicly announced the rebranding. No huge advertisement campaign on radio, tv, newspaper or internet. Not even a small one. The name changed, and that's that. Not even the label read "formerly known as Per".
And they probably still wonder why they are failing with their product.

I love how ironic it was that the Pepsi commercial did unite both sides of the political spectrum but not in the way they expected

Mr. Peanut’s Death was a pretty recent and memorial flop. Surprised it didn’t make the list.

I’m convinced New Coke was actually a brilliant marketing ploy to make people realize how much they loved Coke.

Pepsi back again: they had a campaign in the 90s called "Pepsi Stuff" where you got points for buying certain pepsi products (a $1 pepsi bottle would have like 5 pts) they advertised a Herrier Jump Jet (worth $23 million in real life) for "7, 000, 000 points" an investment group bought a bunch of Pepsi and tried to cash them in for the Jump Jet and then sued Pepsi for false advertising

Yeah, Mojo didn't mention the other thing that happened when Fiat sent those love letters. Sure, some single women were sufficiently scared they had stalkers, but it was the married women that really got the brunt of that campaign. There was never an apology made to those women who were subjected to abuse for the 8 days it took for the Fiat branded follow-up letter to arrive saying 'haha that lover was actually your new car, aren't we clever'. This ended up being almost a class action, not sure what they have in Madrid but a whole lot of people sued and Fiat was 'fined'. Then they did the 'female co-pilot manual' in 2016. I don't know how it gets through so many people.
