Hamas urged to ‘release hostages and surrender’ its arms to achieve a ceasefire

Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Birmingham says the only chance for a ceasefire in Gaza is through the release of hostages and Hamas surrendering their remaining arms and terrorist capabilities.

This comes as United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken heads to the Middle East to push for a ceasefire in Gaza.

“I urge Hamas to release hostages and to surrender their remaining arms and terrorist capabilities,” Mr Birmingham told Sky News Australia.

“Because that would achieve a ceasefire in Gaza that is so desperately needed by the Palestinian people.”
