The 6 Credit Cards I Plan To Cancel & Downgrade in 2024

A lot of people cancelling Amex cards lately, but my reasons are much much different and very unique to my situation. I love my Platinum & Gold card, and really wouldn’t be cancelling or at least, thinking about cancelling if I wasn’t on the Chase Ink per quarter plan.

But we’ll also go through why I plan to cancel or downgrade my Amex Platinum, Amex Gold, Delta Gold Business SkyMiles x2, Hilton Surpass and Chase Sapphire Preferred.

Ink preferred mostly for that last one ha, need some transfer partners!!

Something told me not to edit this one, not sure why. Full disclosure, my situation is unique to me, and I love my Amex Cards. Just wanting to save some $$ during these times especially since with the ink per quarter plan, I don’t think I’ll be able to use the Amex Gold as much until 2025, to which I will return to it at that time. But it’s unique to me, and you have to decide the same for yourself of course. But like anything, I guess we’ll see + it’s all based on you.

I found a great Cebu condo on Delta Stays buy beginning on Airbnb.
I actually did one booking thru Citi Travel ($100 Hotel credit), ; and the second booking thru Delta Stays ($100 Hotel credit).
I just upgraded Delta Gold to Delta Platinum, so I can get an additional $150 Hotel Credit in 2024.
And we'll be happy to have our companion certificate this time next year.

Simply hold the AMX cards with the most useful credits... and earnings.
Usually, that's a card one step below the top.

2024 it's a good year to whittle down your card arsenal, to a more manageable assortment. Especially as they're adding more coupons and raising the annual fee.

As for the Platinum….i’ll never get to the airport 3 hrs ahead of time. I’m literally rushing through security and getting to the gate exactly when boarding commences 🤣🤣.

Definitely should cancel that classic gold 🤮 and switch it out for the classy Rose Gold 🙂.

It's all of the churning that makes it unappealing. If you have a lot of spend to hit on other cards it creates unnecessary stress.

Nice video Tony!!!! I am cancelling a gold and a platinum this year too. NEVER thought Id cancel either, but between the coupons and the AFs, Im just tired. I am sure I will have p2 apply for both before the year is up tho!😅

I’m actually really considering the delta cards! I’m finding these hotel stays and resy credit very easy to use.

I plan to keep my Platinum card...but if they raise the annual fee on it significantly, I will have to reevaluate. So far my value from it outweighs the annual fee in a significant way. I just got the Delta Skymiles...on an upcoming trip, I am flying Delta on 3 of 4 flights. Baggage fee savings on that alone will pay for the card for me plus being first year still get free. the 15% discount booking with points has been pretty awesome too similar to Lani's chat about United plus the $150 stay credit should be easy to get full value out of. Big tip on the Hilton gift card hack! Appreciate that!

Doesn’t canceling cards hurt your score or do you mean you switch to a non annual card?

What lounge(s) do you have at your local airport? I think that’s usually the determination for which travel card to get/keep. Or if you fly to a regular airport often.

The CSR is interesting for me since NYC is my home airport(s) and Chase just opened two new lounges
