We went with the Mazda6, years later and 384k miles, it’s been rock solid. Aside from 5k oil changes, and regular maintenance, the only part I’ve had to replace was the radiator, and a $50 cam shaft sensor. My buddy had an optima and it went through 3 engines and he maintains his cars well by 150k

I think the Accord's design is huge improvement over the last few models. Looks more European, wish they did something similar with the Civic. It is actually a Honda I would consider buying.

For my hard earn dollars, I would go with honda accord or camry. 30yrs of reliable track record besides all the bells and whistles.

I purchased a 2014 vw passat, and so far I love the look. The 1.8T is replacing the older 5 cylinder i think and they are really really really great. It improves MPG slightly, and well, I don't know, I love it, its a great refined car, I love the fact that its ass isn't sticking up in the air like most and pretty good

Very clear-minded, objective and balanced test. The best is that you take into account what each car's strengths are and to what sort of buyer those will appeal to. Good stuff.

I don't understand why I love the passat so much. It's so plain but I can't help it

And the winners are the Honda Accord and the Mazda6 the two with the best mpg, better quality materials, better interiors and surprisingly refined

How times have changed.. The KIA is the most expensive vehicle in this large test?? WOW! Seems like it was just yesterday that the Kia was the cheapest, shittiest car on the block : ).

in VW's defense, there is a 1.8T engine in 2014 which is much more efficient than the 5 cylinder. Also, without the Malibu, Fusion, this is more of a foreign mid-sized sedan review.

I ended up with a Camry too but sold it after a year, That fake leather dash and doors inserts were just to shiny and glossy and cheap looking and filled with hard plastics. Ended up in a Mazda6 and haven't regretted it. Love the Mazda. A lot of the dash and switch gear reminds me of my BMW 3 series.

As for Mazda Reliability, we never had problems with ours, after 6 years we had to replace our transmission on one but only because my dad kept spilling full cups of coffee all over it for 6 years, and had to have the door locks replace after 8 years. That's it. No other problems. We've had four Mazdas and they gave us less problems than our Infinitis, BMWs, Hondas and Chevys. Mazdas are the only cars we've kept longer than 4 years.

I liked the Malibu but I don't trust GM anymore. They knew their cars were defective but didn't issue a recall and that led to over 100 people dying. Then to avoid responsibility, they blame pre-bankrupt "Old GM" for covering it up. My moms new Cruze had three separate recalls, I like that car though, felt solid, roomy and nice but three recalls is a bit too much. I just don't trust GM's reliability and I don't trust the company.

a Couple days ago I was dying to compare cars for myself. First car I test drove was a 2012 Toyota Camry SE and then headed to the Honda dealer (I'm a Honda Civic Owner by the way) tested a 2013 Honda Accord 4 Cylinder CVT transmission. The Accord being $3000 miles more. Well The Camry had  way better made interior (Thank you Lexus) I thought I was driving a Lexus...WOW. The panels, Dash, Doors, were very stylish and the materials were solid like a rock. The Car drove like a dream with it's 6 speed Automatic transmission so smooth and for the car only having a 2.5 4 Cyl engine, plenty of power. The car felt safe, tons of open space around you inside the cabin. After test drive I just sat in it and like WOW was so comfortable too! The Honda Accord I drove, cheaper materials inside the car, Very Choppy CVT transmission that was noticeable right away. Before even getting onto the road out of the dealership I knew the Camry so much better it's comical. I was shocked and I'm an 8th Generation Honda Civic owner and lover. In fact I like my 2011 Civic better than the 2013 Accord. True story. Previous generation but latest model way better than this new Honda. The Accord beating the 2012 + Camry LOL hahahaha good joke...That Camry is on a whole other level.

If you get the Accord then get the coupe (along with the beefed up engine it offers)
If you get the mazda get the mazdaspeed version and pull on all your friends early 2000's mustangs at the lights (or the mazdaspeed 3 if you don't like buying used. Yeah I know its a hatchback, but its a hothatch!)
If you get the passa-.. No, DON'T get the passat.
