I won my case 25 years ago driving my vehicle without a state license plate. I purchased it from the manufacture giving me the certificate of ownership. Under common law anyone who owns it owns the car. A state wants this document to issue a title. Otherwise if the state tows my vehicle with out the certificate, under common law they have stolen it. In traffic court I requested a trial, and questioned the officer. The judge threw out one charged but fined me on the plate. I appealed. I won by appealing to the next higher court which is uncommon for individuals for traffic violations. The judge was surprised to see the traffic case and threw it out. Unfortunately I would have to do this often in many states so I eventually gave in and got a title.
