As a satelite electronics manufacturer i can say this guy who made this video doesn't know jack about soldering

63/37 solder is the best composition because it forms an eutectic alloy which means it goes from solid straight to liquid without intermediary phases at around 183 C and solidifies all at once. This makes it easier to work with and significantly decreases the probability of a cold joint.

Different solder wire❎
Different solder tempreture✅

All that proves is you don't know how to

So the lesson we learn here is use flux and the correct temperature?

Pure what? Solder isn't an element. Pure Lead?

I want my leaded solder back, it's such a charm to work with

Tin-lead-silver eutectic alloy has a slight lower melting point. But i get it, this is for tin-lead alloys. It's not about purity, it's about the accuracy of the content making up the eutectic allow

How do you define "purity" in this context? The numbers are meaningless. Solder is an alloy; traditionally of Sn and Pb in various proportions depending on the application. So basically this is a load of tosh!

As an electrician I always go for the 60/40 lead solder. Nothing like it

Former Satcom Engineer with 24yrs soldering experience and you’re right. No flux, poor heat transfer to pads, wrong tip angle, and different purities are used in different situations. He didn’t even say purity of which element.

It's not about solder "purity" (this shit isn't real), it's about the fucking temperature used for different kinds of alloys!

This is related to temperature! The lower the tin content, the easier it will melt. This video is misleading.

A cold iron makes them all work equally crappy

Is nobody gonna mention the short they created between 99 and 63?

Wrong. The 63/37 SnPb Mixture has a lower melting point even than the 99 Sn, because the 99% Sn (+ other metals) was made to replace the Pb in the solder

Different alloy for a different job.
I'm glad you've found what works for you!

Google is definitely listening to me lol. I soldered for the first time ever today just to teach myself the skill. I’ve never spoken about soldering nor have I ever watched shorts about it and THIS is the first short that comes up for me?

Let me introduce you to this awesome new concept of "setting the right temperature" and "you need some flux bro". 😄

I understand it’s better when you have a rosin core instead of pure solder, because you get no stick without the rosin core. So actually the non pure wire is better!
