Why Rally Tires Are So Different From Regular Ones

Rally tires may look similar to regular ones, but they’re engineered for one purpose—surviving the harshest conditions. Unlike road car tires, rally tires are designed to provide maximum grip on unpredictable surfaces like gravel, snow, and mud.

For gravel, tires with deep treads dig into the loose surface, offering incredible traction. On snow or ice, studs or spikes give the tires the grip needed to defy the slick roads. In wet conditions, specially designed treads channel water away to keep the car from slipping.

What really sets rally tires apart is the soft compound. They offer unparalleled grip in the beginning but wear down fast. Drivers face a constant balancing act, choosing between performance and tire longevity. Choose wrong, and a tire failure can end the race.
