Also, it’s important to note that the Arabic language has over 12 million words as opposed to English which is around 170-500 thousand words. So other than the fact that the use of a word and its contexts gives different meaning, we really have to dumb down the Arabic language in order to convey it in English.

“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.” Verse 4:82

Thank you for documenting your journey in reading the Quran. Both of my parents converted to Islam when I was 6-7 years old; mother Vietnamese Catholic, father White American who was such a skeptical agnostic he may as well have been an atheist (ironically he converted first). I did what most kiddos in any faith do and followed Islam blindly because it was the religion of my parents. I began questioning by beliefs in my late teens and early 20s; although my parents are smart people, what if they had been wrong? I was disturbed because Allah mentions in the Quran numerous examples of people who were sent prophets and messengers but refused to leave the religion of their forefathers (e.g. 2:170, 5:104); if the truth lay elsewhere, how was I doing anything differently from them? Long story short, the research begat by that questioning convinced me that Islam is the truth.

A couple of thoughts:
- I don't buy into "you just gotta have faith", especially when it's the blind variety, and Islam is the only religion I've found that I can embrace without turning off my brain.
- I recall you saying in another video that you follow Judaism. I feel that Islam is a beautiful continuation and the final link in the chain of Abrahamic religions. Judaism and Islam share much in practice (kashrut/halal, tevilah/ghusl, daily prayer). More importantly, in theology we share the absolute strict monotheism with none of the confusion of Trinitarian Christianity. But with Islam you also get the knowledge that the Mashiach arrived with Yeshua (without deifying him) and a relaxation of the strictness of the Halakha without throwing it away completely.

I dropped my contact info in a message on Kofi should you ever have any questions and wish you the best.

I find it interesting when people who are not exposed to Islam or the quran and then try to understand it. I will follow your journey and see where it leads you. Inshallah it will lead you to a happier life.

The problem is most people who accuse the Quran of having mistakes or contradictions haven't actually read the Quran themselves. They just copy-paste from secondary sources making the claim and if you investigate further you'll find those sources citing other tertiary sources and so on. These people don't know Arabic and take any translation they see at face value, so they're the last person you should learn Quran and Hadith from.

Alhamdulillah I was born a muslim and every day when I read the Quran I am always amazed at what I learn. The words are simply so profound and there is wisdom in every ayah/verse. Btw I absolutely love this series, it is so interesting to see someone who has never read the Quran before read it and talk about his experiences, keep it up. One tip that I think would give you even better understanding of the Quran would be to learn about the seerah of the prophet or the life and times of the prophet alongside the Quran. This will give more context to why things were revealed to the prophet during certain times and will inshAllah make you understand it better. There are many places to learn about the life and times of the prophet (personally I really like the series that the muslim speaker Yasir Qadhi has put on youtube called "Seerah of Prophet Muhammad" by Sh. Yasir Qadhi). But in any case I hope you have a great day and keep posting updates🥰

Yet again, another great video :) as said before I'm new to studying Islam and the Quran, doing it on my own and its important to approach it with open eyes, open mind and open heart. It definitely gives me a feeling of comfort and peace. Arabic is really hard! But excellent to learn I say. Thank you for sharing! Articulated very well and makes me feel not so alone in seeking the right path

KD thank you for having such an open heart. At the end of the day, Muslims and Jews are cousins, and thats the case also lingusitically (if you look at the similarities within Hebrew and Arabic). The way Arabic is that it is a trilateral root language, meaning each word is packed with various nuances and meanings. The Quran is filled with so many words with multiple shades of meaning, making tafsir (critical commentary of the Quran) illuminating and important.
