Description:
The term "metabolism" refers to all of the chemical reactions taking place within our bodies to maintain homeostasis, or normal physiological function. They include the breakdown of nutrients from our diet and the building and repair of our bodies. Body temperature and fluid balance are necessary for the organism, including the variables, to function at its best. Additional factors include PH or extracellular fluid, other amounts of iron, copper, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulphur, and sodium, as well as the requirement to control blood sugar levels despite changes in the environment, diet, and level of exercise. Many diseases are caused by homeostatic dysfunction, which might be an inherited disorder, an inborn error of metabolism, or an acquired illness. This module describes about the metabolism and homeostasis based on Indian NMC CBME curriculum for medical students.
