Rishi Sunak is set to be the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, as Penny Mordaunt, the only other candidate, struggles to gain the support of Tory MPs. Boris Johnson, who was expected to announce his candidacy for Prime Minister, withdrew from the race late last night. Rishi Sunak, who was defeated by Liz Truss in the leadership election, has the public support of more than half of Tory MPs, while Penny Mordaunt has only 26 Tory MPs backing her so far - far short of the 100 MP limit that candidates must reach by this afternoon if they want to be on the ballot paper.
