How many programming languages should you learn?

I had this question myself when started learning programming. Let share the truth with you.

Simple explanations for better understanding.Last time it was "don't focus on coding, learn concepts instead, " and now "learn one language really well and the others will be easy to pick up." that is powerful man.

Definitely agree! I started with Java and later branched out to JavaScript and recently Python. Because I knew Java really well it made coding in JS and Python a lot easier because all the knowledge is there, it’s just a case of translating the knowledge from Java into Python syntax or JS syntax
Been recently getting into web apps with Java EE while I’m off university in quarantine lol, just found your channel yesterday 🙌🏻

Learning Java in school right now. Your videos definitely help make the subject easier to comprehend.

100% can vouch for this, I learnt Java first and when I got into Python it was really fluid and the learning curve was nothing.

You are encouraging me tremendously man. I am focusing hard on Java that's my favorite. I notice this I need o master concepts you just mentioned and I had to stop the video a write this. Java OOP, INHERITANCE, ABSTRACTION, ENCAPSULATION POLYMORPHISM JAVA INTERFACE. I got to mention method's as well.

Thanks man, I'm about to go read, code and cook lol. I love cooking, one of my best skills. D.S Malick 5th edition, I love this Java Book!!!

problem why most people dont excel in coding is juggling from language ot language. I remember a friend of mine who locked himself at home and studied java for 2 years. After that he went to do a degree in CS where I met him. He was a coding machine in java projects and we feared and respected him. he was the best student in our first year. Then in my final year project I collaborated with a guy who had mastered laravel PHP. His project blew our brains off and the university adopted it for use in their work. His project was the best project in final year. The brain loves focus. doing javascript today, then c++ next week, then PHP next month and back to javascript then veer off python, u will end up crazy and learn nothing and waste time.

I started with C. Found Java really pleasing to learn because of previous C knowledge I was already able to understand the fundamentals pretty good. I guess this would be a good example of what he's talking about.

I am a second-year backend developer watching this video in Korea.
In the end, I think we will learn all the languages whenever we need them.
c++, java, javascript, python, c#, go, rust.. whatever!
I hope to meet you in the industry someday. Good luck nelson!

Firstly, you said, those who aim to pick up a language they should understand the concepts first. Finally, Pick just one language the other ones will be easy. Thank you so much for your tips!

This is an open question to anybody who would like to contribute!

I'm a finance undergraduate with no coding experience (other than a month or so on udemy haha)

From a strong interest in finance and fintech I started learning python. My original plan was to learn python, and then HTML & CSS and then Javascript as I thought that would be a strong foundation. (I am aware I need some database languages but have no idea where to start!)

After watching this insightful video, I now have no idea what to do. You seemed to emphasise Java alot, why is Java so important to learn first? I get that it is more difficult, but why should I prioritise Java over learning python first? Also how would I go about finding the concepts to learn for each language (and what each language means/offers)?

Thanks in advance!

He's right. I learnt c++ for the first 2 semesters in uni. After that it took me only a few days to learn Java and php.

Exactly! Languages are tools that will come and go. Concepts are long-lasting and transferable.
