Mastodon is an American heavy metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2000. Mastodon has been described as a heavy metal band, along with more specific genres such as progressive metal, sludge metal, alternative metal stoner rock, psychedelic metal, experimental metal, and groove metal.

Call of the Mastodon is a compilation album of their early recordings. It was released on February 7, 2006.

The album contains alternate re-ordered versions of all the songs from their early EPs Lifesblood and Slick Leg. It also includes the track "Call of the Mastodon", which previously only appeared on their demo release 9 Song Demo.

In a documentary on the making of Crack the Skye, guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds referred to Call of the Mastodon as the band's first studio album.
