Man, I was just listening to my favorite album from high school. This song came up and I realized... You could never get away with playing a song like this today. We were all a bunch of punk rock or grunge kids, sometimes both... We were depressed, angry and confused. It bled out into our music (in all genre's). Punk wanted their revolution back, grunge just wanted to be against the norm, against the machine, it's own little pile of trash and nothingness that was all so very beautiful. Then came Columbine, and after that... The rest is history.

my interpretation of this song is someone that has been irritated by a lot of people, and he has no one to tell about what's bothering him because he keeps growing more and more negative/ pessimistic, so he deals with his feelings internally and all his thoughts that haven't been let out just jumble about into a giant clusterfuck of negativity inside his brain. this causes him to start going a little crazy, since his mind is running so much, and he starts saying or picturing violent things because he's so fed up with everyone that he just wishes they were gone. of course he doesn't actually do it, because it's only an internal struggle of his, but he imagines it regularly and doesn't care that his mind is so dark anymore because he's tired of people's bullshit. and honestly, i can relate.

the drumming!! Tre Cool’s drumming in this album inspired me to want to be a drummer. This song’s a standout for sure.

This song came out when I was in 5th grade. Dookie spoke to me so profoundly though I couldn’t really relate to the lyrics of this song now I see how profound this is. The expressions of a psychoneurotic who allows the other end of the spectrum of psychopath to let loose but is tempered by his sensitive and empathetic nature at the end when he realizes he is just so down and losing his mind but that ultimately it’s just another idea that adds up to nothing like everything else he has pursued in life to that point. This was written before he became a husband and father FWIW

I was in a really bad time around June. My brother loved Green Day and was playing Green Day rockband. I heard the song Boulevard of Broken Dreams and thought it was good. I looked it up on youtube and saw all the others. I heard 'Time of your Life' and fell deeply in love. I heard other modern ones and some old aswell and loved every single one. I heared Basket case and when I come around and loved them. I looked up the songs. Found this. Thanks wikipedia :) My favourite song
