Todays Topic is on the succulent Hoya Plant and peperomia – also commonly called as the Sweet Heart plant or Valentine plant – Hoya Kerii and Miniature Wax plant or Hoya Belli. Then will show you how to propagate it from cuttings.

Hoya is an genus of 200–300 species of tropical plants in the family Apocynaceae. Most are native to Asia including India and China.
Common names for this genus are waxplant, waxvine, waxflower or simply hoya. Other names depending on hoya species like Sweetheart plant or valentine plant - Hoya kerrii - Another one is Hoya Bella or Miniature Wax Plant.
Hoyas are evergreen creepers or vines. They climb by twining and with the developement of adventitious roots. ( adventitious roots are those which originate from the stem, branches or sometimes, leaves – like for eg: aerial roots of money plants).
Hoya plant has simple leaves arranged in an opposite pattern. Leaves may exhibit a variety of patterns like heart shaped or variegated pattern like the ones you are seeing here depending on the species.
Hoya leaves vary in size, texture, color and venation (The arrangement of veins in a leaf is called the venation pattern; can be parallel venation, or reticulate venation). There are hoyas with almost perfectly round leaves and others with linear leaves or inverse heart-shaped like for Hoya Keriii species with the cleft away from the stem. This is the reason why its called valentine or sweet heart plant.
Uses:
Hoya carnosa has been shown in recent studies to be an excellent air purifier when kept indoors. Medicinal value of this plant is still a question.

Care and Propagation.
• Hoyas grow well indoors, as well as outdoors with indirect bright light.
• Hoyas are easy to propagate, and are commonly grown from cuttings as you are seeing here. I am planting two cuttings brought from the mother plant and inserting in a well drained soil containing cocopeat and plain soil in 50 50 proportions. Just like ordinary cutting propagation, you can just insert in soil making a hole. You can also apply rooting hormone powder, if you have it and check the results in a week or so.
• Then, It can also be propagated by air layering.
• Potting Soil should be large-grade drainage material such as perlite or ceramic balls. The plants can be fed regularly with a fertilizer like NPK.
• One strange thing is Hoyas prefer to be "potbound" - and kept in a small pot. It is said that this will quicken flowering in the plant.
