Also, in 1987 Atari released the XEGS . It was a 65 XE computer re-designed as a semi-standalone game console. It is fully compatible with Atari's 8-bit line both games and computer hardware and software, but the keyboard can be removed and it can just be played with cartridges or even the built-in Missile Command game. I have one and it's probably my favorite 80s console.

1975: all games were built-in
2021: still built in, almost 50 years later

I had an Atari 800XL console, tape drive and a couple of Wico Command Control joysticks. Man I loved that thing growing up in the 80’s.

I refuse to believe the Jaguar only sold 150, 000 units. I've seen it and heard about it too much for it to have sold less than the Virtual Boy. It had to have sold at least 1 Million - 1.5 Million, but that's still not a lot.

Atari also released a Video Pinball console model C-380 in 1977. It only played built-in games.

Combat was released in 1977, not 1983. It was one of the original launch titles for the VCS and was included with many consoles.

Thanks to a conference arranged by one of my academical institutions, I will have the honor to meet Nolan Bushnell himself. I will even be granted the chance to directly ask him some questions, it is a huge honor to me because this man has done so much for the gaming industry, truly without him none of the blockbuster titles today would exist.

Great video. Pitfall and Donkey Kong Jr weren't on the Atari Flashback 2004 console though. In fact, even the ones that did appear were not the original Atari versions. It was running 20 NES ports that were made to run on NES-on-a-chip hardware (a cost saving business decision). Of course, Atari fans were appalled about that but they exist as officially produced NES ports of Atari games. That's a pretty strange thing and not many Nintendo fans seem to know about it.

Pong wasn't intended for release at all, it was just going to be Al Alcorn's learning project. They put it into a bar where it proved so popular that it kept malfunctioning due to the quarter receiver overflowing. That's when Bushnell and Dabney decided to release it further.

When I pass this channel, there is a translation in every language. It is informative and the animations are really nice.

Fun fact: Apple founder Steve Jobs worked at Atari before he founded Apple

I agree with the fact that when I was a kid if you were going to the arcade they call it in that time "going to the Ataris" even though you were playing with Nintendo or Sega Arcades
