Hi!

I’m a medical student and it always frustrates me when I see those claims without any evidence. It’s harder now, with all the new trends and the influencers promoting these new trends that are not necessarily true. Especially in a time where people are trusting influencers more than doctors/scientists.

I think it’s really great what you are doing! We need more influencers like you, educating people to not blindly believe but search for evidence based studies 😁

Ingrid, I am constantly impressed with the kind of quality content you produce. This is such an important topic! Being able to analyze and determine what kind of sources are legit is a significant skill that anyone who consumes information on the internet should have! Thank you :)

I'll be honest, I was wary when I clicked this video. But when you covered MediaWise and the three questions to ask, I felt so relieved and I am so proud of you for going in this direction. You really won't see this much among influencers, which is why you're a, ahem, baller lady if I do say so myself. Media literacy is so freaking important. I'm about to graduate with a marketing degree and one of my long-term goals is to support media literacy. You rock, Ingrid. Thank you.

Please do one on essential oils. Some MLMs claim absurd things like curing autism or depression.

Such an important video!! It's also important to know that not every answer will be found in Google (tldr: big editors keep information behind paywalls, see Elsevier); the way google ranks information can also show bias; libraries are amazing places that give the public access to different sources for individuals to do research in online and in books. Librarians (in schools, universities, and public libraries) are there to help individuals navigate all these resources. A common misconception is that librarians shelve books, but actually, they are there to help empower people to delve deep into research in efficient ways.

As a librarian, I approve this message!

But also, can we talk about how the word "detox" doesn't mean anything? Our bodies don't need to be "cleansed"--they do that all on their own!

This is the kind of content we need more of on the internet!

Holy Smokes Ingrid, such an amazing video that is so needed in the beauty/wellness consumer community!!! I feel like I'm a pretty well educated/ aware consumer and I do get frustrated about detox/ diet/ wellness fads & claims (ex celery juice) but I still learned a lot from this video. Possible extra step, sending a polite message to the Molly Sims blog about the ramifications of the claims... As many people have mentioned, I'd look a little deeper into the deodorant claims/ fact checking but overall so great!!

Ingrid this video is so wonderful!!! I love watching how your content has been evolving over the past year. This video is concise, clear, and gives people tangible strategies to improve their media literacy without being judgemental or condescending. The only thing that is missing is an acknowledgement of how your own videos in the past have perpetuated many pseudoscientific products (collagen powders, expensive hair/nail vitamins, etc) that had no evidence. I don't think you ever promoted anything dangerous by any means, but I think this was a missed opportunity to acknowledge past shortcomings and invite your audience to grow alongside you. I hope this is not too harsh, because ultimately the direction things are moving is what matters most, and I think this video is going to really be an asset to your audience. Thank you for making this and always sharing your journey!

Okay, media literacy is an incredibly important skill and I think it's very important that you made this video, especially for your younger audience.
I do, however, want to point something out that I hope you'll address in future videos.
1. There is more nuance to everything. Yes 100% matcha does not cure HIV. No, antiperspirant doesn't cause cancer. But that is only looking at one possible health effect, and it's still relevant to look into what effects the chemicals (like aluminium, but also other chemicals) may have on your body.
2. There are definitely really dangerous health and wellness claims going on (looking at you tummy tea & sugarbear vitamins) but there is a level of ableism that needs to be acknowledged when debunking claims. There are many diets, detoxes, and other health/wellness trends that may be unproven but don't cause harm. These can sometimes be attacked by certain communities, but it is incredibly damaging to those who are chronically ill. Many people with chronic illnesses and certain disabilities have health issues that doctors have failed to diagnose. This can lead to alternative remedies to help ease symptoms, and sometimes those alternative remedies really work. Unfortunately, some groups of people like to paint every trend with one brush, regardless of who it hurts. This includes well meaning people who simply haven't had any personal experiences with chronic illness or injury.
