SCRIPT: What is a Feminist approach to education? Nel Noddings was born in 1929 and received her PhD in Education. She is Known for developing care ethics as a philosopher and She also wrote extensively on the need to reform our sexist educational system.
Nodding’s essay does a great job of addressing all the various areas in which our existing educational system is sexist … and she has proposals for how to fix at least some of them.
The essay is organized around the three main phases of feminism: Phase 1 is Equality Feminism. This was the time when Women in the United States aimed to get the right to vote in the 1920s. Phase 2 is Women’s Agency. At this stage women focused on wage-gaps and reproductive liberty. Phase 3 is Self-Reflexive Feminism. At this stage feminists recognized that there were complex and intersectional differences among women. For example, a woman might identify as a woman, African American and lesbian....
