Dream Theater's John Petrucci sent us a rig tour of the Mesa amps he's using in the studio for their new album. A wide assortment of vintage Boogie Mark III, Mark IV and a few prized Mark IIC+ heads from his collection make up the early Boogie usage. Current amps like the Royal Atlantic RA-100, Triaxis/2:90 and the mainstay of John's studio and live rig, the Mark V round out the modes, tones, channels and sounds in use on their upcoming 2013 album in progress.

John walks us through "Boogie Mountain" in the studio and provides a few details on what amps are used for what sounds where as well as some insights into the Dream Theater studio process for guitar sounds overall. Amazing stuff for any Dream Theater/ John Petrucci enthusiast. Enjoy!

I started with Marshalls and Fenders for amps until one day I bought a Mark IV in a pawn shop and it changed the way I play guitar. I now have a Mark IIC+, Studio preamp/simul-stereo 295 set up and a Mark III. When I try other amps, I'm so glad I have Boogies.

I've used many Mesa's.. i currently own a DC-5.. it's an amazing amp. My mark 5 I owned was the best amp I've ever played. The dc5 comes in a close 2nd. Ive owned a dual rec and an electra dyne as well. No other amp company even compares in tone, feel, and versatility. I always go back!

I have a Dual caliber + and a Mark iii. I'm hooked. These are old amps that are still keeping up/surpassing newer high gain amps. PS. Boogie's customer service was very courteous and helpful during all of my orders. Thanks M.B.

Bought a Mesa Mark V in late 2012 and I haven't looked back!!!  In my opinion, the best handmade amplifier in decades!!!

Now I want a Mark V even worse than I did before! Really awesome to see the setup, and love the vintage Marks in there keeping true to what they used to sound like back in the day!

"It just sounds like a T-Rex screaming in your face, it's really amazing" - I thought it was an adam02 video.

I've been a fan of Dream Theater since I first heard "The Glass Prison" in sixth grade... the year the album came out. Lucky me to have found out that every amp John uses was made just a five minute drive from my house. Just awesome. Best tone and feel ever, and everyone at the factory is super nice (Hi to Debbie at the front, and Mike and Rich). I refuse to play anything else other than Mesa now.

Can't WAIT to hear the new album. Whenever John talks about his gear, I always have a huge smile on my face. His knowledge of the different amps and other stuff is just so in-depth and detailed. Varying degrees of awesomeness indeed :D
