I'm convinced my pc is like one boot-up away from dying but really helpful none the less 👍

I capped FPS on Metro Exodus Enhanced to 75 for not only more stability but also to decrease GPU heating as I run extreme settings with ray tracing. I can hit well over 100+ FPS in a number of areas but there are still frame drops and GPU heats up a little. I found 75 to be the sweet spot for the game because its very stable and some places even has FPS somewhat drop below the cap like Taiga that is highly demanding.
Plus, I have a 140FPS universal cap for all games using Nvidia Control panel.

I've been saying this for a long time. I have a 4K60 monitor, but my video card can run many games at higher than 60, at that resolution. Any frames that the video card generates over that, are basically discarded, because the monitor can't display them. My card runs cooler, the fans don't scream, and I'm assuming that lengthens the life of the card and the fans, as well, since it's less stressed. If you can't afford to buy a new video card every year, then that matters. The card also requires less power, lowering your energy bill, and extending the life of your power supply, as well.

4:01 Quick tip! If you click "Program settings" you can cap the FPS to individual games.

new to pc gaming and this video helped me out a lot thank you so much! I was doing exactly what you said in the beginning of the video, but now I have much better performance/efficiency... appreciate it!

Thanks for the tip. AMD GPU user here.
I wasn't aware the GPU was using more power at higher frames.

I always manage my frames to 60-90, great tips!

Couldn't agree more. FPS isn't everything. I can have 200+ FPS, but always run it at 120 usually. It's smooth.

Gonna try this - Idk if It's windows 11 or what, but recording games on any software is hit or miss for me. Some are butter smooth and other recordings lag for no reason, even tho gameplay is smooth, and I have a rtx 3080 - i9 - when I was back on Windows 7 I used to record GTA5 with OBS and never had these issues....

ngl I'm really being truthful, , My laptop's refresh rate is 120hz and so I used to play Fortnite with the maximum frame rate my laptop screen could provide (120fps) but then I realized that my game was getting choppier the more I played and it made my Laptop heat up so bad and so I capped the maximum fps to 60 in the game and now the fps is stable whenever I play Fortnite bc it's not trying to overdo itself and hence making the gameplay smooth af and my overall Laptop performance is not hindered due to the burden either

This is more important than what people realize. Yet no one else is addressing it.

Wouldn't it be better if you set the cap to 80? I'm saying because a frame drop from 80-60 is way better than 60-40.

Reminder that capping the frame rate in the game's menu gets you a LOWER latency than using RTSS or Nvidia Control Panel.

I'm running a 1080ti and I don't have that option in my driver settings.

I preffer vsync on, instead of having screen tearing, the only way that I would play with vsync off would be with a g sync monitor, right now I use my monitor overclocked at 72 Hz, so the games with vsync on run at 72 fps instead of 60 fps, also enabled low latency mode in nvidia control panel

If you have a 144Hz display, would capping at say 60fps still beneficial?

Thanks for the easy to understand information.

Such an excellent video!! Thank you...!!!

Capping your fps in Nvidia control panel or in RTSS will add significantly to latency. It's better to do it in the game settings where possible and use the Nvidia control panel/RTSS when that isn't possible.

Whilst true, higher fps than monitor hz, helps with input lagg.
