Cracked carbon bike wheels 🚳 Know your weight limit

Показать описание
The weight limit for carbon road bike wheels generally varies depending on the manufacturer, but is usually between 100kg and 120kg. Each manufacturer specifies a specific weight limit for their wheelset, so it is important to refer to the manufacturer's official data or product description before purchasing.

Mountain bikes are rated up to 140kg.

Some high-end carbon wheelsets are designed to support higher weights, but generally speaking, heavier riders are recommended to use aluminum wheelsets or stronger spokes and rims. If your weight exceeds the limit, the strength and durability of the wheelset may be reduced, which may lead to safety issues.

Therefore, when choosing a carbon wheelset, it is recommended to check your weight and the weight limit of the wheelset, and consult a professional if necessary.

Carbon wheels and frames have weight limits. I bought a bike from Performance Bicycles that had an 80 kg frame weight limit. Some carbon wheels go as high as 300 pounds for a set though. In this case, it appears the rim blew through due to excessive heat and thus the rims would fail regardless of the weight placed upon them, although a heavier rider would cause failure sooner.

Yes but that bike has rim brakes and since you can’t see if he came down a decent. Because heat can cause the carbon wheels to fail. I would guess it’s a combo of weight and heat from the brakes

Trek / bontrager says no weight limit. At 230+ pound I've raced gravel on carbon rims for 3 year's with Zero issues not even going out of true. Now all my bikes road/ mountain/ gravel on their carbon rims combined 10k plus miles zero issues.. just saying...

I had that happen to me with an aluminum mag wheel, it was bad doing almost 30mph, sounds like a gunshot didn't know what happened, tire came off the wheel and started wrapping around stuff.

I work in a bike shop and I wouldn't buy anything made from carbon. Far too expensive if it breaks which it will, sooner or later.
