Have you ever been driving and stumbled upon an unusual barricaded home in Project Zomboid? These are known as survivor homes, and are abandoned or lost bases of others in Project Zomboid. They're full of rare, valuable loot, and you should ALWAYS loot them!

You can use a regular hammer to pry off barricades too. "Remove barricade"

Fun fact : you can spawn in one. It happened to me. It was full of loot, but also zombies. Makes for a hectic start.

But never forget;

Imagine how much it would suck to be these survivors where you managed to fight off multiple hordes/other survivors to loot a hardware/police/grocery store, bring all the supplies home without getting bit/injured by a survivor, secure your home, then die because you were in the majority that wasn't immune to the first wave of infection that spreads through the air and is everywhere

The survival in Zomboid is so unique. It's just a constant slow burn of minor threats until one mistake too many lead to your death

Yesterday I found one and it had EVERYTHING.

What I mean by everything: *The Mighty Sledgehammer*

I typically convert these into safe-houses to use as points to rest and resupply during longer journeys, or to settle in temporarily when doing long term projects nearby.
My games generally revolve around them in some form, as I use them as a springboard to ease some of the burden of whatever else I’m working on at the time.
So I end up having a sort of network of bases to work with, rather then a singular long-term one.

I found a log cabin once in the forest that wasn’t barricaded yet the cabinet under the sink had: a kitchen knife, fire axe, 2 baseball bats, a baseball bat with barbed wire and like 5 other random but powerful melee weapons

No the reason the survivor base is abandoned is because the Infection is airborne and could easily seep into the house. The survivor stood no chance since the air was probably already polluted with the particles.

Big tip with survivor houses. It may take you longer to loot them but to play it really safe remove the planks on the door before going into the window. (The door is almost always locked from the inside). Then once inside if you need to make a hasty exit you won’t have to risk crawling through a horde that’s flooding thru the one window and can choose between the door as an exit or the window if you need too. Doing it this way has saved a lot of my runs

But I still don't understand why and how did the survivors put barricades on the outer side of windows and doors instead of putting them on the internal.

I remember going in a house and being so confused that there was a cupboard full of melee weapons and another full of guns and ammo

So are survivor homes sometimes on the annotated maps?

Remember: Always shove those doors, and then a few steps back. If you're lucky, you'll even be able to get a zombie from the inside to open it up for you

Be careful tho, some of them are dead houses where there can be like 10 zombies barricaded inside

I remember the first survivor house I ever found with my buddy on my first play through I literally found a survivor house full of guns and I was screaming
