I'd say that fine dining is for those who want to know more about food, to taste more, to meet more people and so on. The food is always tasty and healthy, the atmosphere and the service are great. No doubt it's pricey but everything is done professionally, with great care and passion. It's more about experiencing.. about gaining new insights and it's a great exercise for those seeking to be cooks or chefs.

A lot of people seem to be upset regarding the small portions. I am a person who consumes a lot of food, I am quite the eater. However, one misconception of fine dining is that you don't only eat one single dish, you are a paying for a full course meal which more than often involves over 10 different dishes. At the end, you end up eating as much food in 10-20 dishes than in one single dish from a family restaurant. More than often you'll be paying 15 to 20 dollars per dish too which is not really that expensive considering the different flavours.

So after we put the food in our mouths, do we swallow it or spit it out on the table? Also, how do I properly pick up a fork?

I love the idea of customers eating at fine dining as foodies who want to love and partake in something great but not as snobby people with money who just want to flaunt that they can afford this meal. Take that aspect of pretension out of culinary arts and only allow the aspect of the craft and appreciation. Food is for everyone

Only clicked to remind you all of the Spongebob episode where he has to empty his mind of all things besides fine dining.

Going to a restaurant and still expected to pay 15-20% tips just for a service is funny. Only the restaurant industry can get away with such rules. Imagine buying a car and get charged 10-15% for assembling costs. The reason why waitress need those tips are simply because the restaurant management doesn't want to pay their worker from their own pocket.

Sometimes my moms company has banquets which include fine dining and small portions, most of the time afterwards we just end up going to some burger place because we are still starving.

Eating like a normal person is considered ratchet in fine dining restaurants.

When you are provided with the taste of wine before pouring, it's not because you are supposed to decide if you like it or not, BUT to check the wine for defects in smell. If it's as expected and pleasant, you don't even need to taste.

Soon tipping will be at a suggested minimum of 30%.
If only the restaurateurs would pay their staff a real salary....

Okay, with my experiences. I’de just prefer to go to steak houses or a fast food place than go to any of these entitles fine dining. I just don’t like the fact that I don’t get full due to the small portions every time I visit one of these restaurants. Yes, you will have multiple of these but it’s still doesn’t fill you up as like eating a filet mignon with a side of asparagus with a side of asparagus and sweet potato mash at steak house for less price. But that’s just my opinion

Every person takes the limits of their own field of vision for the limits of the world. — Schopenhauer

I love eating with my hands (hot wings, corn on the cob etc) and needing a bib do to how messy it will get. HOWEVER I love having to plan my outfit for a restaurant, and pairing my spirits with a dish on a Saturday evening and listening to smooth jazz. I don't understand why we can't enjoy both. Sure its pricier, but I'm more than happy to pay for the experience. I'm most definitely not going out of my way to spend more in hopes to "shove it" onto strangers faces. I'm too busy trying to enjoy my self to worry about displeasing others.

As long as I'm not making a mess, please don't watch how I hold my utensils. I still want to try fine dining, though.
