Ah, the memories! I was a tall female teenager with big thighs in the 1970s. They did not make tall clothes for women back then, at least not in JC Penney and Sears, where my family mostly shopped. Certainly not at K-Mart! My pants were always too short, which is one reason that I just do not understand ankle pants and capris. I still have flashbacks to pants being too short!

My saving grace was that it was the era of bell bottoms. I loved my elephant bells! (No, not elephants embroidered all over them, their bells were just really big.). I had a pair of mustardy (think Dijon) brown cords that just were not wearable in public. I found some chocolate brown corduroy fabric and cut a triangle of it to widen the bells, then a strip to go around and lengthen the bottom. In my grandmother’s button box, i found yellow buttons with little sailors on them, doing that wide-legged sailor stance with their hands at the small of their waists, elbows akimbo. I put them going down the center of the brown panels.

I LOVED those pants! I rarely wore them in public, though because it was a time of conformity and I was not a brave soul. I loved your jaunt into Big Pants Surgery! (Though I knew the tablecloth would never work and was telling the screen, “no, that has linen in it, it is too wrinkle-prone and too lightweight.”) It brought back memories and as always, was fun to watch!

i had a dream that i got a tattoo on the arm where i don’t already have a tattoo but in the same spot as my tattoo on my other arm and then i cried because they were too symmetrical and not cool and carefree. not a scary dream but it’s what i got. also the pants are SO AMAZING 🤩
