Odie's Oil Finishing Product Review

a viewer suggested that I use this on a guitar body. Well I bought it and gave it a whirl.

I like it leaves a nice clean finish. Its supposed to harden up the longer it dries out. will have to talk about that on one of my live video's.

i tried this stuff on a kit one time, over Angeles leather dye. I don't know if it was the humidity, the dye, or the oil was old, but it NEVER dried, no matter how much I tried rubbing it off. Always felt greasy - almost like I coated the guitar in vasoline.

I like that. It's like a hard satin finish. Cool and it darkens nicely.

Nice! Looks great D! I just built a bass kit for my wife and it came out awesome!! She likes the natural wood color with all black hardware, So that's what I did but I wanted to add just a little flare to it so I watched a few more of your video's and bought some of that leather dye that you use and covered the top of the headstock and ran that same line down to the bridge with medium brown dye then I airbrushed a fake black binding around the headstock and along each side of the dye going to the bridge. Man does it look awesome! I plan on getting more colors of that dye for future projects. So I pilot drilled everything (the kit just has a basic body shape with a neck rout and 2 pup routs, and a finished neck, bolt on) It's a nice kit, all black hardware and covers to! The only downside to this kit is nothing is predrilled so you have to (I do, Lol) measure 8 times drill once... After getting everything on center and mocking everything up, it looked awesome. So I tore it down to finish (top coat) the body. I wasn't sure what to use because she wanted a semi-gloss finish, and every guitar kit I've built I use my airbrush with 2k clear, but that's way to glossy so I watched a few wood shop videos and decided to go with danish oil... Well, it looks amazing but I put 1 light coat on 4 days ago and it still feels tacky and stinks!! Lol. Not sure if it is supposed to take this long to cure or if I did something wrong? I did forget to use a sanding sealer so I think it's taking so long to gas out because the oil just soaked right into the wood? I'm not sure... Do you have any tips on danish oil? Any help would be great! Thanks bro .. Mike.

Lots of woodworkers don't care for the stuff because no one really knows for sure what's in it. To me it just seems like really emulsified linseed with limonene added to it for penetration. Provides a decent finish for furniture and cutting boards - dunno that I'd trust it long term as an instrument finish myself....

Would love to see you do some tests where you both build a finish with many coats and purposely try to burn through it on the buffer to see how really tough the stuff is... as I am dubious.
