Ibne Abbas ( RA) narrates the Holy Prophet PBUH to have said: “ Pray to Allah with your straight hands open to the sky. Do not make supplication to Allah with back side of your hands raised above.” “In the end, move your both hands over your face”, says Ibne Abbas.

It's not incorrect to wipe face after making dua. It's a matter of dispute among scholars, you can't discard it totally.

'Umar (رضي الله عنه) narrated, ‘When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) raised his hands in supplication, he did not lower them till he wiped his face with them.’ Related by At-Tirmidhi.

Imam abu hanifa's school of thought do wipe their face. This is a fiqh related discussion but all 4 madhabs use and reference the appropriate books and right ijtihad

I never knew. Inshallah Allah will forgive me and the people who had done this by accident.

1. Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibnul-Khattab (radiyallāhu’anhu) reports that when Rasūlullāh (sallallāhu’alaihi wa sallam) would spread out his hands in supplication (du’ā), he would not leave them down until he wiped them on his face.’ (Sunan al-Tirmidhi Hadith 3386)

Hāfith Ibn Hajar (rahimahullāh) has stated that there are various other narrations that support this and that this hadith is hasan (soundly authentic) – ( Bulughul-Maram pg.455; Hadith 1554-1555; also see Faddul-wi’ā of Allāmah Suyūti (rahimahullāh)

I touch/wipe my face after dua. it seems like a natural movement. I guess Muslims in the subcontinent do this. but at least for me no one told us it is a sunnah or a wajib, it's just something you could do or leave. But it seems like a comforting movement than anything else. I could be in the Hanafi madhab as we are Hanafi. In that case it will be completely permissible, but I don't know

We are mostly Hanafi in Central asia, and we have been wiping our faces with our hands for ages while making dua.

Imam Nawawi wrote in his book why is it encouraged to wipe face after dua, Ibn Hajr authenticated ahadeeth that say it is sunnah, Imam Sanani also considers it to be sunnah including Hanefi and Shafi scholars...On the other hand, Ibn Taymiyah, Sheikh Albani, Abdusalam (Abdusalam actually insulted others scholars by saying:" Noone wipes his face after dua except jahil, the ignorant") are of opinion that it is not authentic therefore not sunnah. There is difference of opinion about authenticity of ahadeeth that talk about that, but these salafis are just forcing hambeli opinion, ignoring and mocking view of any other madhab or scholar who disagrees with them.

Based on Hadith, my mufti said wiping your face when making dua is sunnah. Doing that means duas are being answered. I’m not sure where you’re getting your references from - please share because someone in the comments shared the Hadith that our nabi saw would wipe his face after making dua. The body wiping I don’t know about but we can wipe our face after dua.
