Yes, this is a re-upload. We had an issue with the original copy as the file had a bad encoding. We yanked it and did a new render with some suggested edits. Sorry for the confusion!

Just a little bit of radiation protection knowledge (and why the gas-masks and suits make a lot of sense in a radioactively contaminated area):

Radioactive radiation comes in 3 different forms: Alpha, Beta and Gamma

Alpha radiation consists of helium-4 cores and is the easiest to shield from (a piece of paper or a few centimetres of air is enough)
Beta radiation consists of positrons or electrons, is highly ionising and takes about 100x the shielding to block (it takes for instance a few mm of aluminium, but generates Gamma radiation in the process)
Gamma radiation is very short wavelength electromagnetic radiation (think ultra-ultra-ultra-violet or ultra-Xray) and has the highest energies while being extremely hard to shield from (it takes a substantial thickness of even lead to shield against it)

But the ability to shield from Alpha and Beta particles rather easily also has a big downside:
If you somehow get contaminated with isotopes that show Alpha or Beta decay (like breathing it it, ingesting it, getting it on your skin), they will dump all their decay-energy into your body, causing massive damage to the surrounding tissue. (So much so that Iodine-131, a strong Beta emitter with a half life of 8 days, is used to literally burn (cancerous) thyroid mass out of the body)

In case of nuclear contamination like Chernobyl or Fukoshima the most problematic isotopes released were: Iodine-131, Caesium-137 and 134, and Strontium-90. All of them strong Beta emitters that are in their solid state at room temperature, you really wouldn't want to ingest.

So it was mostly about not getting contaminated with radionuclides, and thereby get internally irradiated for year to come, instead of shielding from the local radiation. And for that a P3 particle-filtering full-face mask coupled with a dustpoof suit (and taped seams). Or ideally, if available, a SCBA and gas-tight suit, as some radionuclides like Tritium can be gaseous.

Most people live by a rule of 2 - two minutes without clean air (mask/SCBA), 2 days without clean water (purification/filter), 2 weeks without food (LTS solutions), of course shelter and conditions determine priorities.

It seems to me that mask protection is considered extreme when in fact it’s completely necessary.

I believe it's the Israeli 7N gas mask anyways it's the one that has the inside the cheek filters that is my favorite because you can still get a cheek Weld and with an AR15 or an M16 platform behind lap form the high riser is perfect that you can still shoot almost the same

quality product. feeing the rubber on the 6m vs my old one, it’s definitely made to last.

The problem with Mira is they just use other masks like the CM-7M is just a expensive Czech OM90

If it's equipment designed for purchase by governmental agencies, it's safe to assume it's way above my paygrade. No $100K toilet seats around here.

Great. When the next rona variant comes out, I'll be prepared.

Colon Thrust has MIRA vids, y’all got collab going on?

Mira is just a distributor. These masks can be had for way less than what Mira wants for them AVEC is the manufacturer of the OM-90 and CM-6. All of them rebranded and sold at high profit margins.
