I open up this kenmore 500 clothes washer to discover why it was full of water and not pumping. Something was stuck in the pump impeller, I removed it and solved the problem!

Our washer has been broken for a few days and we were beginning to lose hope. We were worried it was the motor and that we would have to figure out how to replace it. Morale was low. In a last ditch attempt, we took to youtube. Somehow this video popped up when we searched for "Kenmore 80 washer". Leaving our doubts behind, husband removed the lid to the plastic thingy and lo and behold an accursed cute tiny baby sock. The other commenters reporting toddler socks really tipped us off. Thanks guys! Washers really do eat socks.

Thank you! You saved me a bill! Just an FYI to everyone else, the amount of water that WILL drain is the amount of water that is in the washer. I recommend removing as much water as you can before doing this. For what ever reason I figured there was some sort of stopper and the only water that would come out was the water in the hose. I was wrong. Luckily I had a bucket nearby and caught most of the water! Thanks again!

Broke single mom here - I needed a new lid switch, changed that and I couldn’t believe it wasn’t still working since the switch was definitely broke. Turns out I also had a sock stuck in the same part. Thank you much for this valuable video! My son and I can finally have some clean clothes lol😅

Thank you for this video! Just took my washer apart to find a toddler sock stuck in the pump. Saved me several hundreds of dollars.

I am very grateful for this video because I was able to unclog the pump. The only thing I couldn't do based on this video is put the machine back together.

ALL I NEEDED was how to safely get the top part off & was afraid to break it... glad it just pops but needed quite a bit of effort doing doing! Always helps to know in advance how best do anything as I've broken too any things in my not so short of a life! Haha!

Mine did this yesterday. It was the lid switch. I simply cut the wires and taped them up and tucked them in. Now I can watch my spin cycle. 🤠

I just used this video as a reference and it worked for me as well. My little man’s sock was stuck in the motor part.

I do wish you showed the reverse assembly procedure for everything, but especially those clips on the pump! Is there maybe another video of that part? (Crossed fingers)… I’m not parried I’m going to bend it trying to clip it back on, and I’d love to see how you did it! Thanks!!🙏

I know what that is! 😂. Thanks so much for the video. The EXACT same thing was wrong with my washer and I fixed it for free. My clog was a bra pad and it looks exactly like what’s in the video.

Same here - the old sock in the pump trick! Thanks so much for this! You are saving people hundreds if not thousands of $$. Is there any way to prevent another sock or small fabric item from getting inside the pump again?
