Original, unlicensed sets were really Lego’s golden era.

Space Police, Lego Castle, power miners, Atlantis, Ninjago, Chima, Mixels, those were the most nostalgic

I feel so fortunate to grow up in the 2000s/2010s, when Lego had so much more originality (and lower prices)

I have something exciting to share:

I recently had the pleasure of speaking to Joshua Wexler, who co-wrote "The Adventures of Clutch Powers", and he said they still want to make a sequel. They have written ideas for a Clutch Powers trilogy, in fact. The only problem is lack of demand. He said if we make enough noise, Lego might listen. So if you want the biggest unresolved cliffhanger of your childhood resolved, spread the word!

Chima, Mixels, Monster Fighters, Nexo Knights, and even Hidden Side are all very nostalgic for me, but of them, I would have to choose Chima. I just love how the animal motifs are designed and incorporated into vehicles.

My favorite mixel has to be Tentro.

i still miss chima. the animal themed designs for the sets were amazing and i wish more of that was in ninjago considering they have a lot of animal villains, it would be so neat

The Monster Fighters is my absolute favorite lego series ever. I love the theme, it’s my childhood. I got almost every set except for the haunted house.

This video makes me almost want to cry. I miss the days of LEGO having this many unique original themes with their own stories rather than relying entirely on licensed properties. Don’t give me wrong, the licensed sets are good, but no originality like this is has ever been seen again. My favorite original themes were Aqua Raiders, Space Police, Mars Mission, Agents, Atlantis, Heroica, Castle (fantasy era), Pharaoh’s Quest, Dino, Ninjago’s first year, Hero Factory, Bionicle, Racers, Alien Conquest, Exo Force, and Power Miners.

Lego atlantis is so nostalgic for me. Had the big shark, transformable deep-sea mech and the big scorpion. The scorpion is a weird story for me because I got it from my dad and it was the first time I met him at like 6 years old because my parents are divorced. I have never met him since he got me that scorpion.

damn...seeing lego atlantis really hit me hard... with it beeing the first proper theme of sets i got when i was a kid (ignoring ninjago's spinners), it does hold a lot of nostalgia for me... if my memory is correct, i owned over half of the sets, such as both the lost city, the Portal and the most of the vehicles... But sadly, back then i was the type of kid who despite spending hours to assemble a set, i would disasemble them and remix them hours later only to completely scramble the parts and ending up loosing / breaking a lot of them... nowadays, i probably lost/broke half of my parts, and the rest are colelcting dust together with all of my other lego hero factory and lego ninjago sets on the attic of my parents house...

If there is one Lego theme that matters to me most it’s the Mixels. Me, my brother and cousin always built them with our grandma. The first ones we ever got was the original glorp corp, I got Glurt, still my favorite mixel, my brother got Torts and my cousin got Glomp. Overtime we collected almost all of them, some of my favorite characters being Lunk, Jinky, Wuzzo and Berp, along with many many others. It was awesome having legos as a connecting force in my family. I really hope that Mixels get revived someday for a limited time, just so I can revisit those memories in a new way.

Bionicle, Exo-Force, Fantasy era Castle, Pirates, Mars Mission, Aqua Raiders, Power Miners, Pharaoh's Quest, Seasons 0 and 1 Ninjago, Vikings, Racers (which everyone forgot about but it still has the coolest car designs out of any Lego theme to this day), Agents, Ultra Agents, Space Police III, Atlantis, Dino Attack, Alpha Team—those are all the best Lego themes, imo. And, Bionicle and Exo-Force reign king above all. I stopped purchasing Lego when they stopped making original themes. Now, I only purchase the Castle-related set we get once every year or two.

Also, who else remembers Lego Mindstorm? Lego quietly dropped it after releasing an updated version, and now, like Lego Racers, I don't see anyone talk about it.

Monster fighters was great! I spent a good chunk of my childhood collecting the sets over the course of about 2 years. I still have all the sets built and on display a decade later! I love and cherish my 100% complete collection of the theme (with the exception of the accessories pack of course)

I wish lego still had more unique themes rather than just having basically only sets of already established themes, I used to look at most of these sets all the time as a kid in the store begging my parents to buy me one

Lego Rock Raiders, Alpha Team, Aqua Raiders, Mars Mission, Dino 2010, so many amazing themes. Lego just doesn't have that in house creativity anymore it feels like. Sadly the corporatised licensed sets make the $$$.

Also in regards to Dino Attack / 2010, the American version had all the guns, the UK version (2010), had tranq guns and cages instead of the more "lethal" armaments. So they were in effect completely different versions of similar sets. The helicopter for example had a large cage that could be picked up with a deployable claw, and the 4 tracked vehicle also had a large cage that could be towed.

You also forgot one of the underwater series, Alpha Team. Alpha Team had both an underwater and "ice" theme. Though perhaps it wasn't necessarily "exploration". Loved all of the underwater themes.

Lego really isn’t the same anymore. We had so many cool, nostalgic, and original themes back in like the early 2000s. It was awesome

I do miss the classic Lego sets, they had so much imagination and creativity in them.

They didn’t need backstory or elaborate plots or design, they were self explanatory and left it all to the imagination of the child
