Great set of videos. I hope your sister appreciated all the time and effort you put into it!

The strength is great with the pocket holes alone but when you glue in the panels it increases the rigidity a lot. I have made about a dozen of these chests all with great results. I am sitting next to one right now that I built 3 years ago. Thanks for watching!

I painted the entire inside last. Thanks for watching and glad you like!

Jay -I really like your videos on the blanket chest build. I have a bunch of recycled oak I am going to use to build something similar for my grandson's toy chest. I think I may stain the panels in a contrasting color to the stiles and rails. Great design. Sturdy beyond any need and simple to construct. I'm also with you on the butt joints. The end grain is so interesting! Thanks for sharing.

Great project, great video series and super epic chest! I now feel the strong urge to build this! And maybe I'll do just that :)

I use a pre-stain conditioner prior to staining as it helps to eliminate the "blotches".  I also pre-sand each piece prior to assembly...it makes it easier to finish later.  I'm making something similar at the moment and use just one stile dead center...I then cut decorative moldings to "picture frame" each panel.

This is beautiful =) Would love one of these, saving this video-series for summer =) Thanks for sharing =)

Jay, I was curious to know why you have not done some sanding on the stringers before you screwed together? Looks like you would only need to do some touch up sanding after assembled. Also, I know you mentioned about liking the knots. On the front center stringer it looked like it had a big knot with a void in it. Curious to know why you would have used that piece. I would think that it would a hard area to dust once it was used in the home? Thanks for sharing your projects.

I like this chest and the way you built it. Did you paint the inside of the panels before you put them into the chest?

Forgot to mention that I favor the water based "dyes" in purples, ebony, bright reds, deep blues and greens.  Got tired of the same old browns, walnut etc..  Sometimes my pieces are two and three-toned.

$60 to build, how many hours did it take and how much did/would you sell it for? Just curious. I'm starting in woodworking and not with the intention of selling much or making lots of money but it would be nice to sell once in awhile to offset a little cost of the hobby. My plans are just for fun, make stuff for me and family. Great way to make gifts for people too :)

How's the strength being all pocket hole joinery? I haven't used them for projects this big.
