We're one year exactly away from the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. But here's the thing: Some experts say it still won't be safe next summer. They say there's no way Tokyo can host the Olympics, with scientists believing a COVID-19 vaccine won't yet be widely available. And then there are ethical questions about giving 10,000 of the world's fittest athletes a vaccine from the coroanvirus before administering it to the general public. Now, experts do say organizers could make changes, such as no fans, no Olympic village and no opening or closing ceremonies. Critics of that idea say there's no point to the Olympics with those alterations, but one thing is clear: Olympic officials say there will not be another delay and 2021 is the last shot for the Tokyo Olympics. #WakeUpCLT #Olympics #COVID19

The green light is on for next year without a doubt

It looks as though the light will be red, not green. Tokyo 2021 will be cancelled and if Tokyo still wants to host the games, it may have to wait until 2032 at the earliest, unless Paris and/or Los Angeles are prepared to postpone their Olympics in 2024 and 2028 to make way for Tokyo.
But I believe Tokyo has lost billions preparing for an Olympics that may, more likely probably never take place. Japan should reclaim the lost money from China, the country at fault for the pandemic.
Given the huge costs of staging Olympics these days, the question has to be asked if the Olympics should continue at all.
At the very least, they should be downsized and have less sports in them to make them cheaper and easier to organize, and money should be given less consideration than the original thinking behind the games, that winning is less important than taking part. The man who symbolized that was Britain’s Eddie “The Eagle Edwards, a ski jumper who came last but today is still better known, at least outside Finland, than the Finnish ski jumper who won. That does not make the achievement of the Finnish ski jumper any less significant - but it is good to remember those who did not win as well as those who do.
