How long the Coronavirus pandemic will last

As lockdowns around the world continue in some form, and a new normal begins to bed itself in, many of us are wondering: when will this coronavirus pandemic end?

That’s a tricky question to answer. We are waiting for a vaccine - but when? Or may it never come along? What would a world with no vaccine look like - and for how long will we have to learn to live with the virus at the back of our minds?

In this video, we try to figure out what our future might look like.

I live in Taiwan, a crowded island with 24 million people, and I’m married to a Taiwanese woman. Most people know Taiwan was ahead of the curve. China admitted human to human transmission on 20 Jan, but people in Taiwan had already been worrying about this for a couple of weeks and a majority were wearing face masks on the subway and buses from around 5 Jan. The Chinese New Year period was from 23-29 Jan, and every year the whole extended family, aunts, cousins, etc. get together for a week of eating, drinking and gambling. This year my wife said she didn’t want to go, some of the family still got together, but it was largely cancelled, and just 3 days after human to human transmission was confirmed. As a typical Englishman, I complained, said it was overkill and we couldn’t let this mystery virus with no confirmed cases in Taiwan ruin our family celebration. I was told that there could be a 14 day incubation period, that there might be asymptomatic infection, that the virus might already be here. We didn’t see the family, and some had returned from China just to be there. Over a million Taiwanese people work in China. John Hopkins University predicted that Taiwan would be the second worst affected country after China based on its proximity.

Hopefully this virus would last for about a year cuz I can’t even imagine living like this for the next 2-3 years, in which this pandemic would cause most people social anxiety in which we’re afraid to step outdoors or be around people. It’s just not healthy. Everyone just hope this virus would go away in 2021.
