He makes perfect sense but I'm with the people commenting I'm doing more stuff as is and still no raise. So I'm just dusting off my resume and applying for jobs.

Doing this will get more work dumped on you, but you’ll still be making the same amount of money

I must be an outlier, I got a 15% raise by simply asking for a raise. I didn’t specify how much I wanted, but I was able to clearly explain why a raise was deserved

BS in a hospital setting you get evaluated based on your date of hire. They usually offer a substandard limit you achieve like 3% raise. Sure you can ask “how can I perform better “ but that will get you more work and a cookie for a bonus on your next eval.

Raises should be expected and not have to be fought for, they also should come with 0 extra responsibilities. Reward loyalty with more money not more work.

Promotions should come with both, more money and more responsibilities. If you're looking to grow within the company, then you should be expecting more things to do and obviously more money.

It’s easier to apply to new jobs and move across the country! Lol

The worst thing I ever did was ask for a raise then I got labeled as a complainer and management started treating me like crap. Worst thing!

Be a way better & more talented worker than your peers. Be curious, be cooperative & be a great communicator. Stay up to date on what’s happening in your field of expertise.

More responsibility = more money has happened exactly 0 times. They’ll have you to do 2 people’s job for the exact same pay quicker than shit though.

If you need to ask your manager to come up with a growth plan and THE MANAGER isn't actively seeking out how to work with you to make you better, thats the signal that you need to leave.

Leave. It's easier to go to a competitor than to get a raise. The business owners like large profit margins.... they will forever be stingy, if you get a raise it usually comes with more responsibility meanwhile you can start over elsewhere and negotiate. Good luck

If the proffessional development system isn't already in place for that to happen, you're working at a dead end job. If it is in place, all those questions should already be answered. First, look at the company and determine if what you want even works for them.

Good chance this approach will get someone more work and no more pay. In my experience, the easiest way to make more money is go get a new job.

From my experience these days, it's just easier to find a job that will pay you more. Especially if it's in with a competitor, ... If you're getting along with the supervisor and the job is great, wait out at least a year. If they don't give you a raise after a year, start dusting off your resume and go somewhere else

As a hiring manager, this is excellent advice.

That's called being a slave to the job without any more money. I, however, did walk into my boss' office and asked for a $18, 000 raise. He was more than happy to give it to me because he values my hard work at his company.

How can I build a program like that for my employees?

See the first one is asking for a raise. The second one is asking for more responsibility in order to get a raise. Don’t take advice from your boss on how to get a raise. Also don’t take advice from the generations who bend over backwards for someone who is simply on the other end of a contract between the two of you. A job is a business deal and if you’re bending over backwards jumping through hoops doing stuff you didn’t sign up for without adjusting the contract you’re simply being bent over and receiving. Instead of trying to do extra work for people who profit off of getting you to do as much work for as little compensation as possible you should approach your boss with an expectation of how much you deserve to get paid based on your performance and why you deserve that. Any boss worth working for given reasons to give you a raise will do anything they can to give you that raise.

Did something like this in a job until I was doing 2 people's jobs, promises promises promises and then nothing so I left 3 years after I originally asked
