Donnie is my late brother's wife's first cousin. He was born Dominic Ierace (pronounced Iris) in my hometown of Ellwood City PA, a small town 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, to Italian-American parents. I've met him several times and he's just the nicest guy you'll ever want to meet. He had a #2 hit with the Jaggerz called The Rapper in 1970, worked with Wild Cherry of Play That Funky Music fame and then had a strong solo career in the 80s. His "nerdy" look was a tribute to Buddy Holly and he is a dynamic live performer. In fact he is still doing shows at 80 to this day. This song brought back great memories, thank you!

The comedy of the video offsets the fire of the song. I remember hearing it first and it was crazy good, then seeing the video and scratching my head 🤣. It was genius

I remember when this song was huge. Donnie was everywhere. There was a TV special that highlighted his talents, showing how he played every instrument and sang all of the vocals.

I loved this song and artist from the moment i heard it on the radio back in the day. I thought, this Donnie Iris is on his way, can't wait to hear more from him. But it never happened. Fortunately, we have this terrific song, but i was sure he'd be up on the charts again.

Ah man, this was cut short. There was at least another 1/2-1 minute where he really belts it out there. Great reaction, you two. Donny was also in another, earlier band called The Jaggerz and did another really famous song called, The Rapper, which he also wrote and performed lead vocals on.
