Had a restaurant job once where I did a triple clopen every week. I took naps in my car behind the restaurant next door, and it was a 45 minute drive each way to go home and shower.

We used to call those turnaround shifts. Cause if you tried to go home you'd just have to turn around and come back. Fuckin hated those

Coming from a country with a law that says "the end of one shift and start of the next have to be apart by atleast 10 hours" this is wild

Any corporate retail service that automates their time clocks schedules and allows these situations is criminal. Looking at you, Office Depot.

Clopen in a restaurant, close kitchen and get drunk at the bar. Sleep in car and get pissed at whoever closed

been there, "oh can you stay after for a few hours" ah ya I guess what you need me to do? literally 5 hours over when I was sposta leave 3 hours away from working a dubble they sent me home yawns literally made it to my car and slept in my car until 2 hours after a manager knocked on my windows asking why am I still here like I was not tired after working a dubble for them. thin had the gull to ask me if I would be able to come in for the evening shift in 3 hours? I told him no and drove off. later got a write-up for not coming in that I fought and got thrown out

The one singular pringle and lay on the bed fully clothed is relatable...I worked part time, i was just doing 3 people's jobs at once while the manager was home by 3pm everyday and my colleague played hide and seek with customers and me whenever I needed help...

I've done a "clopen" shift. Not even in management, just a regular crew member.

Closed at 2:00 AM, opened at 6:00 AM... Went hope, passed out with my clothes still on, and went back to work for the 8.5 hour shift....

Happened to me once, clocked out at 11 went back to the break room after telling the overnight people what I was doing and took a nap until I had to clock back in at 5:30 the next morning because it would've been pointless to leave the building at that point. I have since told my supervisor I can't do that because it was a rough ass day after I opened

Yeah, leaving Lowe’s near 11pm to go in at 5:30am to then get yelled at by contractors who wake up at 5 every day and don’t see a problem with it but got upset because I was tired and didn’t get to sleep but had to serve them for 2 10 hour shifts, while also not having time to take breaks, kinda happy I left😊

The night before black friday I closed and black friday I opened. I was scheduled till midnight, but we did not get done until 1 am. I had to come back at 445 am and they did not let me stay in the break room to nap, so I had to get a ride and go home. Black friday I was so exhausted I was falling asleep standing up

I used to do the clopen shift at the arena i worked at. The beer league players would not leave the dressing room unti 4am and the boss showed up at 430 to open for minor hockey at 530. I would walk out as he came in. We started billing the beer league after an hour in the dressing room. They had to pay the same rate as if they were using the ice.$200/hour. We made much money off of them and they paid it without hesitation

Kinda fun learning the different terms people use to refer to this type of schedule from this. Never had anyone around me use any specific terminology around me before, so personally my brain started calling it the "boomerang" shift.

I worked retail and was given these shifts so frequently that it caused so much stress and lack of sleep for 5 years that i was spitting up blood every morning. Ended up quitting and haven't spit up blood since.

Technically illegal in some states for employers to do. But also technically fully legal to fire your employees with no warning or reason. Not sure about other countries though

This man is 100% spot on. There is zero point in going home in that situation.

I looked at the new schedule, and looked at the manager, then asked “isn't there supposed to be 12 hours between shifts?”. He said “no, there's only required to be 8 hours between shifts”. I'm one of the lucky ones, I live 3 miles away, so it takes 30 minutes to get there, and 20 to get home (10 traffic lights going in, 7 coming home). Feeding pets, changing clothes, showering, eating, etcetera, leaves me 4 hours to sleep. I'm a cashier, they let me handle money when I'm exhausted, and expect the drawer to balance to zero. I found the twenties in the ones spot before I gave it out as change at least. My two days off, I sleep all day because I'm exhausted.
These people are nuts with that schedule, I don't know what they're thinking. But the insurance is good, I'm trying to hang in there.

Me and a mate used to do this shift all the time we would just run to the mcdonalds round the corner grab some food and a coffee then nap in his car until it was time to open again

My store used to do this. Before our hours changed we'd close at 11pm and open at 6am... It took literal threats of violence to get the managers to stop scheduling us.
